Setting the mode for the KGPSA-xx host adapter

This task describes setting the mode for the KGPSA-xx host adapter.

You must install the KGPSA-xx host adapter before you can set the mode.

The default KGPSA mode setting is FABRIC, so directly attaching the AlphaServer to the storage unit using fibre-channel KGPSA-xx adapters does not work without modification. You must change the mode setting to LOOP mode.

Type # shutdown -h now to shutdown the operating system.
Type init to initialize the system.
Type wwidmgr -show adapter to check the mode. Figure 1 shows example output from the wwidmgr command.

Type one of the following commands to set the mode of the KGPSA host adapter:
1. For FABRIC mode, type wwidmgr -set adapter -item 9999 -topo fabric
2. For LOOP mode, type wwidmgr -set adapter -item 9999 -topo loop
Type init to initialize the system.
Type wwidmgr -show adapter to check the mode.
Use the IBM^® System Storage™ DS Storage Manager to set your port attributes to match your host settings:
1. For arbitrated loop: Set your port attribute to Direct Connect.
2. For point-to-point: Set your port attribute to Switched Fabric.
