This section provides an overview of fibre-channel attachment to
a DS6000™,
including architecture, topology, and LUN access modes.
Host systems attachment overview
The DS6000 storage unit provides a variety of host attachments so that you can consolidate storage capacity and workloads for open-systems hosts, S/390® hosts, and eServer™ zSeries® hosts.
Fibre-channel architecture
Fibre-channel architecture provides a variety of communication protocols on the storage unit. The units that are interconnected are referred to as nodes. Each node has one or more ports.
LUN access modes for fibre-channel attachment
This section describes two LUN fibre-channel access modes: access-any and access-restricted. As well, an overview of access profiles and anonymous hosts is provided.
Fibre-channel worldwide port name identification
The DS6000 uses a worldwide port name (WWPN) to uniquely identify a host port that is connected to a storage unit. The WWPN consists of exactly 16 hexadecimal characters (0 - 9 and A - F).
