Defining an OpenVMS host on the storage unit

This section lists the steps you must perform in the IBM® System Storage™ DS Storage Manager to define an OpenVMS host and fibre-channel I/O ports.

Note: These instructions assume that you are familiar with the IBM System Storage DS Storage Manager. If you are not familiar with that tool, review the more detailed steps on creating a host, including an image of each panel, in DS Storage Manager host system definition on Host I/O port configuration through the DS Storage Manager.

You must create a storage complex before defining each host adapter on the storage unit. To create a storage complex, use following menu path: Real-time manager > Manage hardware > Storage complexes.

To define each host adapter to the storage unit, perform the following steps:

  1. Logon to the IBM System Storage DS Storage Manager and follow this menu path: Real-time manager > Manage hardware > Host systems.
  2. From the Select action box, click Create, then click Go.
  3. From the General host information screen, complete the following fields for each fibre-channel host adapter. When finished, click OK.
    • Host type
    • Nickname
    • Description
  4. From the Define host ports screen, specify the host ports for this host. Click Add to add each host port to the defined host ports table.
  5. From the Define host WWPN screen, specify the worldwide port names for the selected hosts. When finished, click Next.
  6. From the Select storage images screen, specify the storage image for attachment. Click Add to add the storage image to the selected storage images table. When finished, click Next.
  7. From the Specify storage image parameters screen, specify the following parameters for each storage image.
    • Host attachment identifier
    • Volume Group for host attachment
    • Type of I/O port (any valid storage image I/O port or a specific I/O port)
  8. Click the Apply assignment button to apply the current attachment assignment. Use this button to go through this page repeatedly for each host attachment identifier that you want to assign to the storage image. When finished, click OK.
  9. From the Verification screen, verify the data that represents the new host attachments. When finished, click Finish.
