AlphaBIOS Release Notes:
------------------------
Version: 5.35
Date: December 12, 1997

Platforms:

This AlphaBIOS supports the following platforms:

        AlphaServer 8400
        AlphaServer 8200

Installation:
-------------

Place the contents of this archive onto a floppy diskette. This diskette
should then be placed in the system's floppy drive and will be used during the
following installation procedure:

1. Boot the system to the SRM console prompt. To do this, reset the system
and place the key switch in the "secure" position (or on the 8200 model,
select the "secure" switch). Once the system has stopped at the SRM
console prompt, the key switch should be placed in the "enable" position
(or on the 8200 model, deselect the "secure" switch).

2. From the console keyboard, type "lfu" and hit return. This will start the
    SRM console's firmware update facility.

3. When prompted for a firmware load device, enter "dva0" and hit return.
This specifies that the floppy drive should be searched for the AlphaBIOS
    binary.

4. When prompted for the name of the firmware files list, enter "as8x00ab" and
hit return. This specifies that it's the AlphaBIOS firmware we wish to
    update.

5. The system will proceed to read the diskette and load the AlphaBIOS
firmware image into memory. Once completed, you will see the LFU ("UPD>")
    prompt.

6. From the LFU prompt, type "update kn7*" and hit return. This specifies
that all CPU modules should be updated with the AlphaBIOS firmware.

7. You will then be prompted to confirm the update of each CPU in the system.
For each prompting that reads "kn7*_arc" (example: "kn7cc-ab0_arc")
, select YES (enter "y" and hit return) for all other update confirmations,
select NO (enter "n" and hit return).

8. Once each CPU board in the system has been updated, you will be returned to
the LFU prompt. At this point, type "exit" and hit return. This will
    perform a system reset.

The AlphaBIOS image has now been updated. The diskette can be removed from the
floppy drive.

NOTE: Should you receive a message during the update that the AlphaBIOS
version you're updating to is less than the current version, this is an
indication that you're attempting to revert back to an older version of the
firmware. Though it is not recommended, you may choose to continue by
answering YES (enter "y" and hit return) at the "Continue [Y/(N)]" prompt.
