Shutdown Windows NT (if it was running).

Start up the Personal Workstation and move to the AlphaBIOS setup
screen (Press the <F2> key during the startup process).

Insert the firmware update utility disk into the floppy drive.

Select the Upgrade AlphaBIOS... menu item.

When the fwupdate.exe has started (large image, be patient), the update
utility will display an update menu.

Note: If your keyboard locks-up at the "Apu->" prompt, then you
may have your keyboard connection through a switch box. Plug
a keyboard directly into the back of the machine and restart
   the computer. Repeat this process.

Also Note: If you are still experiencing problems, then under cmos
setup menu of the AlphBIOS, Press "F6" for Advanced settings and
change the console setting to Digital UNIX console(SRM). Save the
settings and reboot the computer. Upon this boot, an error message
may come up which would explain why fwupdate would not operate.
Correct the issue so that this "SRM" console would boot properly,
then type "set os_type nt" enter and reboot the machine. Repeat
the above proceedure to run the Alpha BIOS update.

To upgrade your firmware:

	Select Update at the Menu.

After that another Update Menu comes up. Select Full update.

	Confirm the update with "Y"
Messages about SRM and ARC/AlphaBIOS updates will be displayed.

At the menu, exit out and then power cycle the system or press the reset
switch. AlphaBIOS will restart. You may confirm that new versions of
firmware have been updated correctly by selecting the Display System
Configuration AlphaBIOS menu item and reviewing the displayed revision
information.
