Version: 4.0 Revision F
Date: April 29, 1999

Please see the Release Notes (RelNotes.rtf) for a more complete discussion of this kit.

Platforms:

This HAL in this kit supports most current Compaq Alpha platforms that run Windows NT. There is no support for AlphaServer 8x00 (TurboLaser) systems, nor for systems using the Alpha 21264 (EV6) CPU chip; those will be included in a separate later release. A complete list of platforms supported is in the Release Notes.

Notes:

This kit contains subfolders, and should be unzipped in a fashion that properly restores them. Most unzipping programs use -d to request this functionality.

This kit must be installed by invoking the UPDATE program in the kit in order to assure proper operation. The UPDATE program will install all appropriate files from the kit into the system. If the UPDATE procedure asks you if it should replace your OEM-supplied HAL, please select "Yes."

This kit provides new PAL files in addition to the new HAL. They will be installed automatically by the UPDATE program.

If your system has a DIGITAL KZPSA SCSI controller: This version of HAL requires that you upgrade your DECKZPSX disk driver to V1.51 or newer while upgrading the HAL, by using the UPDATE program. The KZPSA driver is in this kit, and will be installed automatically if an older version of the driver is detected in your system. If the UPDATE procedure asks you if it should replace your OEM-supplied KZPSA driver, please select "Yes."

This version of HAL supersedes the Windows NT 4.0 Service Pack 5 (SP5) release HAL, as well as Compaq OEM HAL Release E.
