Programming software for PANASONIC KX-TD1232/KX-TD816 PBX

The program was developed to simplify parameters editing of the popular KX-TD1232 / KX-TD816 PANASONIC super hybrid PBX (KSU).

Attention!
This program can't be used to set parameters of old hybrid KX-T123210 PBX - for this purpose see another program - 'KX-T1232 programmator'

Using this program you can forget about mysterious command numbers and manipulate PBX parameters as easy as mouse click. All parameters are grouped in a obvious way according to the function, not the command number.

To use this program you need PC-compatible computer running under Windows 95/98/NT. To connect the PBX you also need a special connection cable - see pin assignment below.
Attention! Cable used to connect PBX and computer differs from the wide-spread 'modem' cable used to connect modem and computer - you will fail to connect PBX if you are using wrong cable. Valid cable is a sort of 'null-modem' cable, but be careful - there are a few of null-modem schemes. It is highly recommended to use cable described below.

To install program run INSTALL.EXE. You can choose a subdirectory, where package will be installed (by default C:\PANSONIC) and select, install additional fonts or not. (fonts HELVECYR.FON and VGASYSC.FON are installed; usually this option should be on).
Program can be used under Win 3.1 - see below.
After successful installation just click on phone icon (locates in the folder KX-TD1232) and start the program. Pay attention to set valid parameters in the point Settings of the main menu. Connect PBX (by clicking Connect button) and try to read PBX state (by clicking read speed button on the toolbar of the program).

Difference between read-only and full-featured version: using read-only version
you can read and view current PBX state. You can also try to edit parameters, but read-only version cant load changed data back to the PBX. The only parameters you can change with this version is time and date of the built-in PBX clock. Main purpose of the read-only version is to check program functionality and compatibility with your PBX. If you find the program useful you can buy full-featured version (write-enabled) - see file HOWTOBUY.WRI for more details.

2. If you fail to connect PBX:

The most popular reason for connection failed is some mistakes in a connection cable. There are a few pin assignments for the null-modem cable, but you should use one that described here. Check it again - it is most popular error!

Second - check COM-port settings for the PC and PBX - they should be the same.
There is a good test for the hardware, including PC+cable+PBX. The test is
to receive call log from the PBX. To execute it:
 A. Connect PBX and PC with mentioned null-modem cable.
 B. Run any terminal program (for example, Terminal.Exe from Win3.1 or
HyperTerm from Win95, TELIX, PROCOM, etc.) Configure it for the simplest terminal mode - TTY. Set COM-port parameters of the port the same as ones for the PBX.
 C. Make a few calls through your PBX - after a short delay you will see on the terminal screen a string, describing your call. You should recognize with easy dialed number and extension number in that string.
 D. If after call was made you still don't see any log information, press Ctrl+Q. If you again receive nothing - check hardware, there is a error somewhere inside.

Third - check password used to access programming feature of the PBX. Program uses 1234 string by default - see dialog Settings->System of the main program menu to change it.

3. Program itself can be used under Win 3.1, but SETUP.EXE works correctly only under
Win95/NT. To overcome the problem you can temporary install under WinNT or Win95 and
then:
 A. Copy PROG.EXE and PROG.HLP files to the computer under Win3.1.
 B. Manualy install font HELVECYR.FON - it is unpacked by SETUP.EXE into subdirectory
WINDOWS\FONTS

or mail to me - I will send all necessary files in ZIP archive to you via e-mail.
