General information
-------------------

The Antiviral Toolkit Pro for DOS is a complete system of protection
against viruses. AVP is easy to use, it has a very large anti-virus
database, which is constantly being updated to as new viruses appear.

The main features of AVP
------------------------

- AVP 3.0 scans disks, operative memory, files or sectors of disks to
  detect and eliminate viruses;

- detects and deletes polimorphic viruses;

- finds and deletes the special viruses which have been written for
  Windows 95;

- uses a Code Analyzer which is able to detect about 80% of unknown
  viruses;

- has a mode of scanning archived and packed files (Unpacking Engine and
  Extracting Engine);

- guards against infection, constantly and automatically.

- AVP scans for viruses inside E-mail databases and files.

By using MAIL.AVC the AVP anti-virus scans Microsoft E-mail databases:

 Microsoft Mail (Outlook/Exchange - .PST and .PAB files, format MS Mail)
 Microsoft Internet Mail (.MBX files, format MS Internet Mail)

AVP is able to scan inside encrypted (password protected) files without
requesting a password.

Current version does scan only inside personal E-mail databases (personal
folders/storage), scanning inside server databases will be included in next
database version.

Future releases: to scan server mail database (MS Mail) system admin has to
shut down mail service - it does keep that base in monopoly mode, so no
application is able to open it. To open it for scanning system admin has to
write special script:

 Send/receive mail
 shut down service
 run AVP
 restart service

While scanning AVP gets each record in E-mail database, detects and
extracts attached files and scans them for viruses. There are several
formats supported now:

 UUEncode (both formats and all variants)
 XXEncode
 btoa (up to 5.0 - no Filename)
 btoa 5.*
 BinHex 4.0
 ship
 NETRUN 3.10
 NETSEND 1.0 (not packed)
 NETSEND 1.0C (packed)
 MIME base64

By using this database AVP scans other E-mail databases:

 Eudora Pro & Lite
 Pegasus Mail
 Netscape Navigator Mail
 JSMail SMTP/POP3 server

By using this update AVP also looks for attached data (UUE, XXE, e.t.c.)
and scans it for viruses inside _all_ files, not only in E-mail databases
(i.e. AVP does not pay attention for file formats).

Attention!
----------

1. If MAIL_ALL.AVC database is included, AVP slows down.

2. To detect mail files AVP searches for special strings such as "From",
"To", "begin" and so on. If there are combinations of these strings, AVP
reports that file as mail-file. As a result, there might be false alarms -
AVP will detect non-mail files as mail ones.
