This software allows you download email into text files based on the contents of the subject line of email messages. Subject lines that matched user-defined text will be saved to a directory on your system. The messages can be deleted from the host server or left to be read by other client email software applications.
Once the email resides on your system in an ASCII text file, the information can be used or manipulated in any manner you choose. You may want to process the information by another software application.
Using command line parameters, you can run the software in the background without the user interface. This allows you to check for and download by calling it from another application.

There are some parameters that can be passed with the execution of this software. The use of these parameters allows you to control the operation of the software. These parameters allows other software or batch files to run this software and download email messages. As you will see in the definitions below, using these parameters, you can log on, check your email, and log off without the user interface window ever appearing on the screen. The software can operate in the background with the use of these parameters. The following are the currently supported parameters:
/i = This parameter allows you to specify the path and location of the ted.ini file that should be used.
/s = This parameter switch is for 'Silent Mode'. This cause the software to startup and check for email. If the '/x' parameter is not used, the user interface will appear.
/x = This parameter switch will cause the application to shut down or terminate after email has been check and/or downloaded.
Browser: This text box contains the path to the Internet browser software application. Only Netscape and Microsoft browsers are supported with the automatic load of the HTML help file. Click on the 'Select' button to search your system for the path to the browser. If you have both Netscape and Microsoft products loaded, a window will appear allowing you to choose the one that should be used. If no browser is detected, you can type the path into the text box. Click on the 'Exit' button to exit and save your entry.
Message Files: This list box contains the email message files. Only files that contain email information are displayed in this list box.
Inbox Directory List: This selection box contains the directories defined to the application to hold the email messages. The entries are defined in the 'Email Specifications' tab.
'Check And Download Mail' Button: This button logs onto your email server, checks for email to download, and then logs off. Based upon the entries made in the 'Email Specifications' tab, any matching subject lines will cause the email messages to be downloaded. Subject lines that do not match the subject line search text will not be downloaded.
'Auto Pilot' Button: This button allows you to start checking for email on a sheduled basis. When 'Auto Pilot' is on, the button will turn red. The interval is specified by the value on the 'Options' tab in the 'Miscellaneous Options' frame. The button will turn back to grey when this is selected again, thus, turning off 'Auto Pilot'.
'Send A Message' Button: This button will display a simple form to send email. Specify the email address, subject, and body. When information has been entered, click the 'Send' button to send the message. Be sure that your computer is connected to the Internet or an error message will be displayed. Make sure that your proper or default email account selected in the 'Options' tab before sending email.
'Reply To This Message' Button: When you click on a message file in the 'Message Files'. Make sure that your proper or default email account selected in the 'Options' tab before sending email.
'Show Header Information' Button: There is information contained in every email message that is usually not displayed by most email packages. This header information contains the source and destination email servers, date, time, and other information. Click this button to display the header information. Click it again to hide the header information.
'Delete This File' Button: This button allows you to selectively delete email message files. Click on the email message in the 'Message Files' list box. This button becomes enabled. Click on this button and the file is deleted from your disk drive.
Message Content: This frame displays the actual subject line and body of the selected email message.
User Name: This field contains the name to identify the email account to be checked. It is a drop down listbox. To enter a new account, simply type the name of the new account in the field. This name has no meaning to the account. It is an identifier to TED only.
User ID: This field contains the logon name for the email account to be checked.
User Password: This field contains the password that is associated with the 'User ID' or 'logon name'.
SMTP Host: This field contains the SMTP server name or host address for the email account associated with the 'User ID'.
POP Host: This field contains the POP server name or host address for the email account associated with the 'User ID'. This server address is used to logon and retrieve your email.
Email Address: This field is used to store your actual email address (ex: myaccount@myserver.com)
'Clear' Button: This button will remove the contents of all email account fields in the 'Account Information' frame.
'Add/Update' Button: This button will add a new account or update an existing account. All information is required before email can be checked for the account.
'Delete' Button: This button will remove an account from future checking.
Use Download Count Window: This option will cause a small window to be displayed on the screen when the main window is minimized. The window displays the current number of email messages that have been downloaded. There is also the time of last update that is displayed. To return the main window, double click content of the window or simply restore the main window. The counter is reset to zero each time the main window is minimized. The window is not displayed unless the 'Auto Pilot' option is turned on.
Display Messages Boxes For Errors: This option is used to determine if messages should appear on the screen when communication or other errors occur.
Interval To Check Email Accounts: This option allows you to specify from 0 to 99 minutes. This value is used by the 'Auto Pilot' feature to automatically check for email on a scheduled basis. When 'AutoPilot' has been turned on, the email accounts will be checked. When the last account has been checked, the timer will be reset.
Searchable Text In Email Subject: This list box contains text that will be used to search the subject lines in email messages. Then the subject line matches the text found in this list box, the message will be downloaded and stored in the assigned inbox directory.
Text In Email Subject To Search: This field is used to enter new of update to the entries. If you want to make a new entry, enter the text to be used in the searches. After selecting the inbox directory, click the 'Add' button. If you want to update an entry, click on the item in the 'Searchable Text In Email Subject' list box. The information for the item will be placed in the various updateable fields on the window. When all changes have been made, click the 'Update' button to make changes to the current item.
Inbox Directory For Email Messages: This input box contains the directory to be used in storing email files when a match has been made on a subject line in an email message.
'Select Directory' Button: This option will display a window that allows you to select an inbox directory for email messages.
Assigned Email Accounts: This frame contains all of the email accounts available to be checked. You must select one of the accounts in this frame in order to change its options.
Case Sensitive: This option allows you to specify that the subject line must match the case specified in the 'Text In Email Subject To Search' field. When this option is selected, the 'Exact Match' option is cleared. Selecting this option means that each upper and lower case letter in the search text must match that of the subject line of the email message. The search text can be located anywhere in the subject line.

Exact Match On Text: This option specifies whether or not the subject line must match exactly the search text. Selecting this option will clear the 'Case Sensitive' option. When this option is used, each character in the subject line must match the characters in the search text. This option uses case sensitivity.

Delete Messages From Host After Download: This option will cause the messages to be deleted from the email server after the message has been downloaded and saved on your hard drive. Not using this option will leave the message on the host to be read or deleted by another client email application. If you choose not to use this option, you will continue to download and store the same message(s) each time you check for new email.
'Add' Button: This button adds new entries to the list.
'Update' Button: This button will allow changes to be made to an existing entry. This button by default is disabled. To enable this button, select the item in the 'Searchable Text In Email Subject' list box. Make the necessary changes and then click this button.
'Delete' Button: This button allows you to remove existing entries. This button by default is disabled. To enable this button, select the item in the 'Searchable Text In Email Subject' list box. Click this button to permanently remove the item.
In demo mode, you will only be allowed to use 'Subject Line Test' as the searchable text for email subject lines. To test, send email with this subject line value.Registering the product will remove this limitation. Registration will also allow unlimited number of search text items.

Use the following to give you a quick start on using Targeted Email Download:
1. Make sure you are connected to the network
(dial-up if necessary to the Internet).
2. Click on the "Options" tab. Fill in the Account information.
This is the information that connects you to your ISP for email connectivity.
3. Click on the "Email Specifications" tab. Enter the text to search
for in the subject. In demo mode, you will only be allowed to use 'Subject Line
Test'. Select the inbox or directory to store the downloaded messages. Then
click the 'Add' button. This adds the entry to the list.
4. Click on the "Main" tab.
5. Click on the 'Send A Message' button. Send a note to the address specified
in the 'Account Information' section of the 'Options' tab. The goal here is to send
a note to yourself so you can download an email message. Be sure to put 'Subject
Line Text' as the subject if you are running in demo mode. If you are not in demo
mode, be sure to enter the text specified in the 'Email Specifications' tab. When
the information is ready to send, click the 'Send' button.
6. To check for email, click the 'Check And Download Mail' button. This will
retrieve any email available for downloading. If a message matches the text
specified in the 'Email Specifications' tab, it will be downloaded to the inbox directory.
7. Once it appears in the 'Message Files' list box, click on it to display the
contents.

The Targeted Email Download software is distributed with the Visual Basic runtime library. These files are also referenced on the download page at our WEB site. These files are commonly found in the WINDOWS\SYSTEM directory for Windows 95 systems.
The library file required for 32 bit systems (Windows 95/98/NT) is MSVBVM60.DLL.
The run time libraries are included if you download the entire package.
