NOTES ON UPGRADING ULTRABAC:
============================

.  (WinNT/Win2000 Only)
   Before attempting to upgrade, ensure that the "BEI Scheduler" service
   is not running. Run UltraBac, select 'Tools / Stop Scheduler'.
   Proceed with the instructions below.

IMPORTANT: UltraBac will run on NT3.51, NT4, Windows2000 and Win9x

NEW INSTALLATION:
=================

To install UltraBac:

. Log on as a user with administrative privilege

. Run SETUP.EXE from the diskette

.  Follow on-screen instructions

.  (WinNT/Win2000 Only:)
   When UltraBac is first run it will create the "BEI Scheduler" service
   and request a user id and password. The default is to create an account
   called "UltraBac" with the password supplied, and it is strongly
   recommended that you do this, as the account will be created with all the
   required privileges.

KNOWN ISSUES
============

. DLT tape drives lose hardware compression. There is a bug in Microsoft's
   NT 4.0 DLTTAPE.SYS and DDK that disabled hardware compression. Use the
   BEI DLTTAPE driver, which does not have this bug, or the corrected version
   that ships as part of NT 4 Service Pack 2.

. Exchange Backup: The account that runs the "BEI Scheduler" service,
   usually "UltraBac" must be defined to Exchange and setup as an Exchange
   Administrator in order for unattended Exchange backups to occur. You
   must install the Exchange Administrator program on the UltraBac host
   machine in order to perform Exchange backups.

. Backing up remote NT 3.51 clients whilst running NT 4.0 (b1381) will
   cause an error 3 (The system cannot find the path specified) during
   the backup of the remote event logs. This has been confirmed as a
   bug by Microsoft and was fixed by ServicePack 2 for NT 4.0.

NEW FEATURES IN ULTRACOPY 2.0
=============================

UltraCopy has been enhanced to allow copying from disk to tape and tape to
disk, as well as normal tape to tape copying. This allows the user to
backup to disk, and then at a later stage move the backup to tape.

AUTOLOADER SUPPORT  (WinNT/Win2000 Only)
==================

Once UltraBac installation is complete, a 'Drivers' Sub-Directory will exist
off of the main UltraBac directory, which will contain two sub-directories,
NT351 for the NT 3.51 driver, and NT4 for the 4.0 Driver.

To install the driver for AutoLoader support:
For NT 3.x use the WindowsNT SETUP program:

. Select 'Options' menu, then 'Install/Remove Tape Devices'
.  Click 'Add'
. Select 'Other (Requires a disk from a hardware manufacturer)'
. Enter the location of the driver directory eg."C:\UltraBac\Drivers\NT351"
. Select 'BEI Medium Changer Driver 3.5x'
.  Click 'OK'
.  Click 'Install'
.  Follow on-screen instructions

For NT 4.0:
. Click Start, Settings, Control Panel select Tape Devices.
.  Click Add, Have Disk.
. Enter the path to the driver directory (eg. C:\UltraBac\Drivers\NT4)
. Select 'BEI Medium Changer Driver 4.0', click OK
. You may need to re-enter the path to the driver directory.

HIGH-PERFORMANCE DRIVERS (WinNT/Win2000 Only)
========================

We have provided copies of our high-performance tape drivers.
These are installed to the UltraBac\Drivers directory during installation.
You will need to install the regular drivers and then replace the
appropriate file with the file contained in the directory. Note that on
some slower SCSI systems that this can cause a reduction in performance,
in which case revert back to the original drivers.

ULTRACOPY
=========

An eval copy of the media duplicator program is included on the diskette,
and is installed automatically. This is a separately chargeable option.
The program supports making upto 31 copies simultaneously.

BACKUP TO DISK
==============

UltraBac allows the output of a backup to be directed to a disk path which
may exist anywhere in the network. To define a disk device, press Ctrl-T
from the main backup screen, and click "Define Disk" button. You may then
enter a UNC path which should be terminated by a trailing backslash. Use
preferences to select the disk device as the default output device.
Additionally, disk devices may be selected for unattended backups by
selecting a disk device from the "Define Tape Devices" dialog.
