ECO KIT SUMMARY:

A dupatch-based, Early Release Patch kit exists for HP Tru64 UNIX 5.1 that
contains solutions to the following problem(s):

The following data consistency problems may occur in HP Tru64 UNIX with
any application that uses ADVFS and direct I/O:

 1. Potential for inconsistent data to be returned for threaded applications
performing AIO reads on a fragmented file via direct I/O, though
correct data is returned on subsequent reads. In addition, there is a
potential for an AIO read of a file opened for direct I/O to return an
incorrect number of bytes transferred. There is no actual on disk
    corruption of the affected files.

 2. Data loss may occur in files opened for direct I/O when writing in
increments smaller than 8K. This problem has been seen as an Oracle
process failure when running parallel query tests, with the following
    error message:

"ORA-08103: OBJECT NO LONGER EXISTS error because a block in the datafile is
 invalid."

 3. Stale data may be returned to an application performing a read after a
copy-on-write operation on a clone fileset even though the correct data
is on the disk. With Oracle, this has been seen as a "ORA-600 [3020]
encountered during standby database recovery" error message.

These fixes are recommended by Oracle on their http://metalink.oracle.com
website for Oracle Server-Enterprise Edition versions 9.2, 9.0.1, and 8.1.7.
