     Read Before Installing or Using DECset Clients for CMS and MMS
     Version 1.3

     DECset Clients for CMS and MMS (DECset Clients) provides access
     from the desktop personal computer (PC) to the DIGITAL Code Man-
     agement System (CMS) libraries and frequently used CMS and DIGITAL
     Module Management System (MMS) functions that reside on DIGI-
     TAL OpenVMS systems. DECset Clients for CMS and MMS Version 1.3
     consists of the following components:

     o  CMS Client for Windows Version 1.2a

     o  MMS Client for Windows Version 1.0

     o  CMS Server Version 1.2a. The server, which is installed on the
        OpenVMS system, provides access from DECset Clients to the CMS
        product residing on OpenVMS systems. This version of CMS Server
        supports DIGITAL CMS Version 3.8 or 3.9 or DECset Version 12.1
        or 12.2.

     o  MMS Server Version 1.0. The server, which is installed on the
        OpenVMS system, provides access from DECset Clients to the MMS
        product residing on OpenVMS systems. This version of MMS Server
        supports DIGITAL MMS Version 3.1 or 3.2 or DECset Version 12.1
        or 12.2.

     DECset Clients for CMS and MMS Version 1.3 supports Microsoft
     Windows 95 and Windows NT Version 4.0. Microsoft Windows Version
     3.1 and Windows NT Version 3.5.1 are no longer supported by the
     CMS Client for Windows product.

                                     NOTE

        The servers that are provided with the DECset Clients for CMS
        and MMS Version 1.3 kit must be installed in order for DECset
        Clients to work properly.

     Contents of the DECset Clients Directory (CMSMMSCL) on the ASAP NT
     SDK CD-ROM

     o  Documentation

        -  CMS Client for Windows User's Guide (AA-QHXUA-TH) located in
           D:\CMSMMSCL\KIT\GUIDE\CMSGUIDE\. (If your CD-ROM is not
           labeled D:, enter the appropriate letter for the CD-ROM on
           your system.)

        -  MMS Client for Windows User's Guide (AA-R84AA-TE) located in
           D:\CMSMMSCL\KIT\GUIDE\MMSguide.doc.

        -  Software Product Description (SPD). The SPD provides an
           overview of the DECset Clients for CMS and MMS kit and its
           features. It is located in D:\CMSMMSCL\DOCS\.
 



        -  Release Notes. The server release notes are located in the
           D:\CMSMMSCL\DOCS directory. The client release notes are
           located in the D:\CMSMMSCL\KIT\CMSCNT and MMSCNT directories
           as readme.txt files. These client release notes are also
           accessible as part of the installation process.

           The release notes contain information about new features,
           corrected errors, restrictions, known problems, and incom-
           patibilities. Review the release notes prior to installing
           DECset Clients for CMS and MMS Version 1.3 and their respec-
           tive servers.

        -  Read Before Installing.

     o  DECset Clients for CMS and MMS. The DECset Clients for CMS and
        MMS software is contained in the D:\CMSMMSCL\KIT directory.

     o  CMS Server and MMS Server for OpenVMS. In this release,
        the CMS and MMS Servers for OpenVMS ship with the DECset
        Clients for CMS and MMS kit on the ASAP NT SDK CD-ROM in the
        D:\CMSMMSCL\KIT directory. The CD-ROM is ISO formatted and
        therefore can be used from your OpenVMS system by entering the
        following command at the OpenVMS prompt:

        $ MOUNT/MEDIA=CD-ROM/OVER=ID device-name:

        CMS Server Version 1.2a:

        o  If installing on a VAX system, use the CMSSRV012A.* savesets
           from the distribution media located in the [CMSMMSCL.KIT]
           directory.

        o  If installing on an Alpha system, use the CMSSRV012A_AXP.*
           savesets from the distribution media located in the
           [CMSMMSCL.KIT] directory.

        MMS Server Version 1.0:

        o  If installing on either a VAX or Alpha system, use the
           MMSSRV010.* savesets from the distribution media located
           in the [CMSMMSCL.KIT] directory.

     Installing DECset Clients for CMS and MMS:

     To install the kit on your PC, double click on the
     D:\CMSMMSCL\KIT\setupclients.exe file OR from your desktop Start
     menu, click Run and enter
     D:\CMSMMSCL\KIT\setupclients.exe.

     Note: An error (file not found) may occur in attempting to ac-
     cess the readme file for MMS Client from the initial product
     installation screen. The file may be accessed directly from
     D:\CMSMMSCL\KIT\MMSCNT.

     Installing CMS Server and MMS Server:

     The CMS Server Version 1.2a and MMS Server Version 1.0 is provided
     for installing on OpenVMS systems. You can install the CMS Server
     and MMS Server utilizing the CD-ROM device on your system from the
     OpenVMS SYSTEM account. To install the server, enter the following
     command at the OpenVMS prompt:

     $ @SYS$UPDATE:VMSINSTAL kit-name device-name:[directory]

     In this example, kit-name represents the CMS Server kit (CMSSRV012A
     for VAX and CMSSRV012A_AXP for Alpha) or MMS Server kit (MMSSRV010)
     and device-name:[directory] represents the Server directory name
     on the CD-ROM, [CMSMMSCL.KIT]. If you are using FTP to transfer
     the files to an OpenVMS system, be sure to specify binary mode.

     Additional information regarding CMS Server and MMS Server instal-
     lation may be found in the server release notes.

     Reporting Problems

     Depending on the nature of the problem and the type of support you
     have, you can call DIGITAL if your software contract or warranty
     agreement entitles you to telephone support.

     Review the SPD and Warranty Addendum for an explanation of war-
     ranty. If you encounter a problem during the warranty period,
     report the problem preferably using electronic means such as
     DSNlink. In the United States, customers can call the DIGITAL
     Customer Support Center at 1-800-354-9000.

     In addition, DIGITAL now provides access to Web Information and
     Support (WIS). WIS is a new electronic delivery application
     that allows you to submit electronic service requests, access
     databases, download patch kits, transfer files from DIGITAL, and
     connect to global notes conferences via the World Wide Web. If you
     are an entitled service customer with access to the Web, you can
     now use your favorite browser to connect to electronic services
     through an easy-to-use, graphical interface.

     If you are already a DIA user, you can gain access to WIS by:

     1. Opening http://www.service.digital.com/wis.

     2. In the United States, clicking on the words "United States".

     3. Entering your DIA Access ID and password.

        WIS and DIA use the same underlying account and directory on
        the DIGITAL Customer Support Center host system.

     If you are not already registered for DIA, you can register for
     a WIS account by contacting your Customer Support Center or local
     DIGITAL representative.
