   1 WHAT'S NEW IN DIGITAL FX!32 V1.2

DIGITAL FX!32 V1.2 provides broader application compatibility and
enhanced performance. DIGITAL FX!32 V1.2 also includes the
   following features and enhancements:

o DIGITAL FX!32 supports the x86 version of Microsoft
            Office 97.

Before you install Office 97, refer to the section about
Microsoft Office 97 for important information about
potential conflicts and the correct Office 97
            installation procedure.

         o DIGITAL FX!32 V1.2 includes the option Add/Remove x86
Programs in the Control Panel. You can use this utility
to install and uninstall x86 programs.

o DIGITAL FX!32 V1.2 supports x86 controls for the Alpha
version of Microsoft Visual Basic 5.0. You can use
DIGITAL FX!32 to run the x86 controls in that version,
along with x86 controls that are available from other
            sources.

   2 INSTALLING DIGITAL FX!32 AND WIN32 X86 APPLICATIONS

Follow the steps below to install DIGITAL FX!32 and then install
and run your Win32 x86 applications on Alpha Windows NT.

Run Alpha Windows NT 4.0 with Service Pack 2 or later. Service
Packs correct a number of problems that you can experience when
using Microsoft Windows NT 4.0. You can obtain the latest Service
   Packs from the following URL:

         http://www.microsoft.com/msdownload/default.asp

You must reinstall DIGITAL FX!32 after you reinstall Alpha Windows
NT or install Windows NT Service Packs.

   2.1 Installing DIGITAL FX!32

Use the following procedure to install DIGITAL FX!32.

        1. Log into the system as Administrator. Ensure that you
have at least 20MB free disk space in the directory on
            which you are installing FX!32.

        2. Install DIGITAL FX!32 as follows:

             - If you received a self-extracting executable file,
run it and follow the installation instructions.

             - If you received a set of diskettes, run SETUP.EXE
from DISK1 and follow the installation instructions.

At the end of the installation procedure, the system
prompts you to restart your system to complete the
            installation.

By default, the installer places both the DIGITAL FX!32
files and a set of sample files in the \fx32 directory.
The sample files are Win32 x86 applications that you can
run under DIGITAL FX!32 to verify your installation.

That's it! You are now running DIGITAL FX!32 and you can install
and run Win32 x86 applications on your NT Alpha system.

2.2 Silent Installation Of DIGITAL FX!32

DIGITAL FX!32 provides support for silent (no user interaction)
installation. Refer to the on-line help index for Silent
   Installation for additional information.

   2.3 Installing Your Win32 X86 Applications

You can use one of the following methods to install Win32 x86
   applications:

o The DIGITAL FX!32 installer utility, Install x86
Application, which is located in both the Program menu
and the \fx32 directory. Invoke the utility and select
            the application installer file.

o The Control Panel option Add/Remove x86 Programs. Invoke
the utility and select the application installer file.

o The Install x86 Application shortcut icon on the Desktop.
Drag and drop the application installer file on the
            Install x86 Application shortcut icon.

The utilities Add/Remove x86 Programs and Install x86 Application
install only x86 applications. If you receive a message that
indicates you are running the wrong version of Windows, the
corresponding application is native Alpha and you can install it
   without the FX!32 installer utility.

See the on-line help topic Application installation for further
   information.

After installing your applications, they run transparently under
   DIGITAL FX!32.

   3 GENERAL RESTRICTIONS

The following restrictions apply to DIGITAL FX!32 V1.2:

         o DIGITAL FX!32 supports only Win32 x86 applications that
run under Microsoft Windows NT 4.0. That includes most
            32-bit Windows 95 applications.

o To install any x86 application, be sure to use the FX!32
Install X86 Application component on the Desktop or in
the \fx32 directory. You can also use the Control Panel
option Add/Remove x86 Programs. Problems have occurred
when installing an x86 application by running SETUP.EXE
            directly.

o You must reinstall DIGITAL FX!32 after you reinstall
Windows NT (including installation of Service Packs).

o DIGITAL FX!32 does not support the following x86 system
components: services, screen savers, debuggers, or
device drivers; if possible, use the corresponding native
            Alpha system components instead.

o DIGITAL FX!32 V1.2 requires Windows NT 4.0 as well as
            Service Pack 2.0 or later.

o DIGITAL FX!32 supports only those Windows NT APIs that
            are supported under NT Alpha.

o DIGITAL FX!32 does not currently support applications
that use fibers (lightweight explicitly scheduled threads
that are new for NT 4.0).

o Although DIGITAL FX!32 V1.2 supports ActiveX Controls,
these Controls frequently do not run within Microsoft
Internet Explorer when Internet Explorer attempts to
automatically download and install ActiveX Controls from
a web page. The reason for this behavior is because the
download mechanism usually queries the architecture of
the client system and refuses to run the Control if it is
not available for that architecture. DIGITAL FX!32 does
not currently have a way to overcome this check.

o Same architecture ODBC (Open Database Connectivity)
connections are supported. For example, x86-to-x86 and
            Alpha-to-Alpha connections are supported, whereas
x86-to-Alpha connections are not supported. For
x86-to-x86 connections, you need to run the x86 ODBC
Control Panel, odbccp.cpl, in the \sys32x86 directory in
order to configure x86 ODBC connections. For Alpha-to-
Alpha connections, you need to use the ODBC option in the
            Control Panel.

o On a system that contains more than one bootable version
of Windows NT, a separate installation of DIGITAL FX!32
must be performed on each version and each installation
must contain a local FX!32 database in a unique
            directory.

o If a native Alpha application does not behave as
expected, include that application on the list of
applications for which FX!32 is explicitly disabled.
Refer to the section about General Application
Information for additional information about explicitly
            disabling FX!32 for Alpha applications.

o x86 compiler IDEs (Integrated Development Environments)
are not supported under this version of DIGITAL FX!32.

In general, compiler IDE's (such as those for various C,
C++, and Fortran compilers) are hard- coded for a
particular architecture and access the system in ways
that are not supported by DIGITAL FX!32. This
restriction does not apply to interpreters, such as
            Microsoft Visual Basic.

         o  DIGITAL FX!32 V1.2 does not support the x86 LOCK prefix;
it is ignored. Applications that use this instruction
prefix may not run correctly on a multiprocessor system.
They do run correctly on a single-processor system.

o Because the Lahey Fortran compiler utilizes currently
unsupported behavior by adding values to the bottom of
the floating-point stack, applications that are compiled
using the Lahey Fortran compiler are not supported.

o For applications that support plug-ins, extensions, and
            add-ins, DIGITAL FX!32 supports:

             - All same-architecture interfaces: x86-to-x86 and
                Alpha-to-Alpha.

             - The following cross-architecture interfaces between
Alpha and x86 (both directions): public COM (OLE)
interfaces, such as those used by the Insert Object
command in Microsoft Office applications, and those
                used in shell extensions.

             - The following cross-architecture interfaces only from
Alpha to x86 (Alpha application and x86 plug-ins,
                extensions, and add-ins):

                 * Control-panel interfaces (You must run these from
                    the \sys32x86 directory)

                 *  ISAPI (Internet server API)

                 *  Multimedia CODECs

                 *  File Manager extensions

o Do not run Help from a native Alpha application while an
x86 application has an open Help window.

On a system running DIGITAL FX!32, there are two separate
Windows Help systems, each supported by a separate Help
window: native Alpha Help and x86 Help. Only one of
those two Help systems, with the corresponding Help
window, can be open at any one time.

When a native Alpha application opens its Windows Help
file, if no help is currently open, it opens a native
Help window. If either a native or x86 Help window is
currently open, the native application Help uses that
window, even if the window is for x86 Help. When an
already-open x86 Help window is used and a native Alpha
Help extension is called, the native Alpha Help
abnormally terminates because of the architecture
            incompatibility.

When an x86 application opens its Windows Help file, if
an x86 Help window is currently open, it uses that
window. If an x86 Help window is not currently open, the
x86 application closes any native Help window and opens
an x86 window. No architecture incompatibility occurs.

o Do not install both DIGITAL FX!32 and the Microsoft Wx86
            emulator on the same system.

o DIGITAL FX!32 has been tested only with the US version of
Windows NT and is only supported with that version.
DIGITAL FX!32 should work with most non-US versions of
Windows NT, but that is not explicitly supported.

o Applications, such as WinZip, can create temporary
directories and run executable images in those temporary
directories. When the application closes an image,
DIGITAL FX!32 begins to optimize that image. During that
process, that file (the image) is in use and the
            temporary directory cannot be deleted.

         o DIGITAL FX!32 exposes existing Alpha floating-point
conformance incompatibilities in some OpenGL SDK
examples. Floating-point code anomalies in those
examples, such as using infinities in calculations, can
cause the display of an empty black window.

   4 GENERAL APPLICATION INFORMATION

This section provides general information about applications as
well as the interaction between DIGITAL FX!32 and Windows NT.

Explicitly Disabling DIGITAL FX!32 for Native Alpha Applications

o It is possible for native Alpha applications to
incorrectly interact with DIGITAL FX!32 and not behave as
expected. If you notice interaction conflicts, perform
the following steps to disable DIGITAL FX!32 for such
            applications:

            1. From the FX!32 Manager/Options menu, select
                Preferences.

            2. Select Advanced Preferences and move the cursor into
the box labeled Disable FX!32 for these applications

            3. From the end of the list, press <Enter> and type the
name of the application. That disables FX!32 for the
named application. If more than one application on
your system has the same name, you can provide the
specific path, including the drive and directory, for
                example:

                C:\alpha\app.exe

If you disable DIGITAL FX!32 for the native Alpha
application and the problem goes away, then the issue was
probably related to FX!32. Examples of native Alpha
applications for which this is appropriate are Matra
Datavision Prelude Design and Light and Sound Pack 2.0.

If the problem persists, however, then the issue probably
relates to the application or the environment in which it
            is run.

     Common Shared Files Directories

o Some application packages under Windows NT 4.0, such as
Microsoft Office, install into a common shared directory
those components that are shared by various applications
within the package and by other applications. (For
example, a spell checker is a common component.) With
DIGITAL FX!32, both x86 and Alpha common shared
components can reside on the same system without
            conflict.

On Windows NT 4.0, installers typically install
applications in the \Program Files directory and shared
components in the subdirectory, \Program Files\Common
Files. DIGITAL FX!32 redirects x86 applications to the
            directory, \Program Files (x86), and x86 shared
components to the subdirectory, \Program Files
(x86)\Common Files. This segregation avoids conflicts
between similarly named Alpha and x86 files and prevents
applications from attempting to use shared components of
the opposite architecture, which is not supported.

Components that cannot be successfully shared across
architectures are correctly segregated and operate
correctly. Components that can be successfully shared
across architectures, such as OLE objects, continue to
function in their correct cross-architectural manner.

     Control Panels

o The system does not display x86 application Control
Panels in the Control Panel window. Those Control Panels
are located in the x86 System
            Directory,%SystemRoot%\sys32x86, as files with the
extension .CPL, such as FINDFAST.CPL. As a workaround,
use the Explorer to open them from there.

     InstallSHIELD

o Problems have been reported with applications that are
installed and uninstalled by InstallSHIELD. At
application installation, the InstallSHIELD Wizard can
display an error message, such as one that reports a
general transfer error. This problem is likely the
result of DIGITAL FX!32 being installed on your system
before any x86 applications that are installed by
InstallSHIELD. When you install DIGITAL FX!32, it
installs an Alpha version of the file C:\winnt\uninst.exe
on your system. When x86 applications are subsequently
installed, InstallSHIELD notices that this file exists
and does not overwrite it with the x86 version of
            uninst.exe.

As a workaround, rename the existing uninst.exe to
uninst_alpha.exe and then reinstall your x86 application.
Retain both versions of the file uninst.exe for future
            use.

At this point the system can display an error message if
you subsequently attempt to uninstall an Alpha
application. To uninstall an Alpha application that
requires the file uninst.exe, rename the x86 version of
this file to uninst_x86.exe and rename the Alpha version
            to uninst.exe.

     Multiple Architecture Distributions

o CD-ROM distributions that use AutoRun (that begin
installation directly from the CD-ROM without your
intervention) and contain binaries for both Win32 x86 and
Alpha can make incorrect installation assumptions and
incorrectly install the x86 binaries on your Alpha
system. You can avoid this incorrect behavior by exiting
out of the initial automatic SETUP and then running SETUP
from the CD-ROM, which correctly installs the Alpha
            binaries.

     Editing Images

o The image editor is a Windows NT component, used by
several applications (such as Adobe Pagemaker 6.0,
MacroMedia Freehand 5.0, and Microsoft Word 7.0) to
insert an image into a document.

Problems have been reported for both the x86 and native
Alpha versions of the image editor. It can fail
regardless of the application from which it is invoked,
and errors occur when DIGITAL FX!32 is not involved.

The general workaround is to delete an empty image
display and reinsert the desired image into the
            application.

5 CONFIGURING DIGITAL FX!32 TO ENHANCE SYSTEM PERFORMANCE

DIGITAL FX!32 can consume a significant amount of a system's
resources while performing code optimization. You can use the
following techniques to enhance system performance. Refer to the
on-line help for additional information about the following
   features:

o By default, DIGITAL FX!32 schedules optimization for
times when the system is not typically in use. However,
you can customize the schedule to suit your particular
usage patterns so that DIGITAL FX!32 optimizes code when
you are not using your system. You can also manually
            enable and disable code optimization.

o You can limit the amount of time that the optimizer
spends on each image. By default, the optimizer is
allowed to take enough time to fully optimize all
identified code in each image. When large images are
encountered, optimization can take a long time and exceed
the amount of available memory, which causes paging to
disk. Because the most significant optimizations are
performed first, limiting the amount of time the
optimizer spends on each image, for example ten minutes,
limits the impact on system resources but still produces
reasonable optimized code. You can make these
modifications in the Advanced Preferences dialog box.

For very large images, you can also make additional
memory available to the system by increasing the virtual
memory size. To do this, increase paging file size in
            the System Control Panel.

o Another method of enhancing system performance is to use
code that has been previously optimized on another
system. To do this, you can either use shared code from
a central network repository or import optimized code.

             - If your system is connected to other NT systems on a
network, find out from the network administrator or
your systems operations person if there is a central
repository for optimized code. Such code can be
                distributed with an application, distributed
independent of the application, or created by another
user previously running the application. The
optimized code is then placed in a central repository
and made available to all systems on the network.
You can configure DIGITAL FX!32 to use optimized code
that is stored in a network repository by entering
the path of this repository in the Server Options
section of the Advanced Preferences dialog box.

             - You can also import optimized code into the DIGITAL
FX!32 database that was exported by another system,
distributed with an application, or distributed
independent of the application. In any case, the
code resides in a file on media that is shared
between both the system that exported the code and
the system that imports it. Code that has been
through the Export/Import cycle is structured for
immediate use by the importing system. Using Import,
you can take advantage of optimized code without
                running the background optimizer.

   6 SPECIFIC APPLICATION INFORMATION

This section provides information about specific applications that
have been tested with FX!32 V1.2. The release notes for Windows
NT 4.0 also contain specific application information and you
should look there for other information about those applications
   in which you are interested.

     Adobe PageMaker 6.0

o The edit track function, which is a 16-bit feature,
produces errors that are not related to DIGITAL FX!32.
Because of problems in the Microsoft Win16 x86 emulator,
the Expert Tracking/Edit Tracks feature is not supported
in DIGITAL FX!32. This function works correctly under
            PageMaker 6.5.

     CorelDRAW 7.0

o Before you install CorelDRAW 7.0, navigate to the
\sys32x86 directory. If you see the file RICHED32.DLL,
temporarily rename this file to RICHED32.OLD. Install
CorelDRAW 7.0. After you install CorelDRAW 7.0, rename
the file RICHED32.OLD back to RICHED32.DLL.

o Do not use the Corel Multimedia Manager 7 to drag files
from one window pane to another window pane. Doing so
can cause the application to abnormally terminate.
Instead, select the file with the right mouse button and
select Cut. Then select the destination directory with
the right mouse button and select Paste.

o Do not insert objects that are linked to an external
file. Doing so can cause the application to abnormally
            terminate.

o Automated Help Hints are not supported.

o Printing Help Topics is not supported.

o In Corel PHOTO-PAINT 7.0, do not use Auto F/X from the
Effects menu. Doing so can cause the application to
            abnormally terminate.

     Corel XARA 1.1

o Corel XARA 1.1 can abnormally terminate if you use
optimized code for the image gdraw.dll. Perform the
following steps to deselect the option Use Optimized Code
            for the image gdraw.dll:

             - In the DIGITAL FX!32 Manager, select Corel XARA 1.1
                from the Application List.

             - Double click on the image gdraw.dll. The system
displays the Image Properties dialog box.

             - In the Image Properties dialog box, deselect the
                option Use Optimized Code.

     CU-SeeME 2.1.1

         o Do not run CU-SeeME 2.1.1 under DIGITAL FX!32 V1.2.
Doing so can cause the system to abnormally terminate.

     Encarta 97

o Before you install Encarta 97, look in the \system32
directory to see if either of the following DLL files
            reside there:

MFC40.DLL (the x86 DLL required to run the program)

            MSVIDC32.DLL

If they reside in \system32, rename them as follows:

            1. Rename MFC40.DLL to MFC40.ALPHA, and MSVIDC32.DLL to
                MSVIDC32.ALPHA.

            2. Install Encarta.

            3. Copy the new MFC40.DLL from the \system32 directory
                to the \sys32x86 directory.

            4. Rename the MFC40.ALPHA file, located in \system32,
                back to MFC40.DLL.

            5. Rename the MSVIDC32.ALPHA file, located in \system32,
                back to MSVIDC32.DLL.

     Freelance Graphics 96 and 97

o Both applications can display an incorrect error dialog
box instead of a splash screen at application launch.
The dialog box can report that more than one copy of the
application cannot be run at the same time. Ignore the
message and click OK. The application runs normally.

     Harvard Graphics 4.0

o Harvard Graphics 4.0 manages its clipart with a 16-bit
helper application, Harvard Montage Lite. Dragging and
dropping that application does not work correctly. To
make the application work correctly, edit the file
Ulead.ini. In the [Paste] section of that file,
duplicate the line that begins with "hgw4=", and in the
duplicated line change "hgw4" to "fx32". As an
alternative, you can right-click on the selected clipart,
copy the resulting thumbnail from Harvard Montage Lite
and then use the Paste Bitmap command to insert the
clipart in the Harvard Graphics presentation.

o If you attempt to use the option Insert New Object from
the Edit menu, the application abnormally terminates if
the options Display As Icon is selected. Do not select
            the option Display As Icon.

o Do not print Help files. If you select an item from the
Help menu and then attempt to print the Help file, the
system does not print the Help file.

     Intuit Quicken Deluxe 6.0

o Importing data by using the Tax Planner hangs the
application. Clicking on the Import button launches
another Quicken image. Eventually, the Tax Planner
window reappears, but it is hung. As a workaround,
launch the Task Manager and select the Applications tab.
Notice that two applications are shown: one "Responding"
and one "Not responding." Select the "Not responding"
Quicken application and click the "End Task" button. The
Tax Planner then completes properly and the tax data is
            available.

o You must manually remove transactions. The operation:
Edit>Transaction>Cut, does not work correctly. The
transaction is left in the register. To remove a
transaction, you can cut each section of the transaction
or manually delete the transaction from the register.

o Do not attempt to add securities to the Investor Insight
Watch List. Doing so can cause Quicken Deluxe 6.0 to
abnormally terminate. For example, if you select the
option Watch List from the Features>Investments>Investor
Insight menu, the system displays the Watch List Window.
If you click on the Add button, the application
            abnormally terminates.

     Macromedia Freehand 5.0

o If you double-click on an inserted Image Document object
to edit the file in the image editor, when you close the
file in the image editor and attempt to return to
Freehand, the system displays an error message. You are
returned to Freehand, but any modifications to the Image
            Document object are not saved.

     Mathematica 2.2.3

o Under some circumstances, when an operation in the
application boots the application kernel and the
application subsequently exits, it can return a General
Protection Fault which, once cleared, can be ignored.

     Microsoft Access 7.0

o The Access 7.0 database wizard is not supported under
            DIGITAL FX!32 V1.2.

o General problems have been reported for database
replication under both native x86 and Alpha and it is not
supported. Attempts to replicate a database can return
an error message, Microsoft error: Microsoft Access
cannot complete this operation because it can't find or
initialize the dynamic-link library "msjtclr", and
recommends you reinstall the briefcase. If you receive
such an error message, do not reinstall Microsoft
Briefcase Replication, as it currently serves no purpose.

     Microsoft Access 97

o If you insert a Calendar control from the More Controls
dialog box and attempt to change the font of the Calendar
control in the Calendar Properties dialog box, the system
abnormally terminates. Use the default font when you
insert a Calendar control into Access 97.

o If the paste and insert hyperlink functions do not work
after installing Office 97, reinstall DIGITAL FX!32.

o Access 97 Database Wizards and the Form Wizard's Pivot
Table Wizard are not supported under DIGITAL FX!32 V1.2.

o Do not open files from the Web Toolbar drop-down list.
Doing so can cause the application to abnormally
            terminate.

o Microsoft Internet Explorer must be the default Web
browser. Otherwise, you can not use the Web toolbar
feature Go>Open to launch a URL or launch inserted
            hyperlinks to URLs in forms.

o Do not move or copy Access 97 files (*.mdb) from the
Windows NT Explorer to the Briefcase on the Desktop.
Doing so can cause the application to abnormally
            terminate.

     Microsoft Binder 97

o Do not use the options Binder Print Preview or Section
Print Preview. For example, if you select the option
Binder Print Preview from the File menu or Print Preview
from the Section Menu, and use the button Previous and
Next to navigate between previewed pages, the application
abnormally terminates. If you encounter this error, log
out of the system and then log in again.

o Do not move or copy Binder 97 files (*.obd) from the
Windows NT Explorer to the Briefcase on the Desktop.
Doing so can cause the application to abnormally
            terminate.

     Microsoft Excel 7.0

o Do not use the Post to Exchange Folder feature under
DIGITAL FX!32 V1.2. As a workaround, save the file to
your hard disk and copy the file to an Exchange folder
            from the Windows NT Explorer.

o When first opening Excel, an error dialog box can display
the message "Cannot run `XLVISEX.EXE'." This only happens
the first time Excel is launched, and can be safely
            ignored.

o Always specify a directory name in the Select Data Source
dialog box when getting external data, even if you do not
know the location of the database. The name you specify
need not be a real file name.

If you select Get External Data from the Data menu, the
system displays the Select Data Source dialog box. In
that dialog box, select Other>New. Select the Microsoft
Access Driver (*.mdb) and click on the button OK. If you
click on the Select button, the system hangs.

To avoid that, specify a name in the Select Data Source
dialog box and select OK, which then displays the ODBC
Data Sources dialog box. In that box, select the name
(the Data Source Name or DSN) you previously specified
and click on the button OK. You can then browse to a
directory which contains the database, select a file, and
click OK. Other parts of the operation then function
            correctly.

     Microsoft Excel 97

o You can initially use the Template wizard to add a
Routing Slip. When you attempt to use the Template
wizard to add a Routing Slip a second time, the system
displays an error message and then the application
abnormally terminates. Instead, perform the following
steps to add or remove routing recipients:

             - From the File menu, select Open>File and then New to
                select the template file.

             - From the File menu, select Send To and then Other
                Routing Recipient.

You can now add and remove recipients from the template
routing list after using the Template wizard.

o Although you can use the option Routing Recipient to
embed a workbook file in an electronic mail message, do
not use the option Other Routing Recipient after that
file is routed. Instead, send the file by using the
option Routing Recipient from the File>Send To menu.

o The Web Toolbar commands are not supported.

o Do not insert or paste hyperlinks into Excel 97
spreadsheets using the menu options Insert Hyperlink,
Paste Hyperlink, or Paste Special>Paste Link>Hyperlink.
If you select these options, the system does not insert
or paste hyperlinks into Excel 97 spreadsheets.

o Inserting Organization Charts into Excel 97 spreadsheets
is not supported under DIGITAL FX!32 V1.2. For example,
do not select the option Insert>Picture>Organization
Chart. The system displays an error message and does not
            insert the Organization Chart.

o Do not use either the MS Access Report Wizard or the MS
Access Form Wizard in Excel 97. Excel 97 abnormally
terminates if you select either the option MS Access
Report Wizard or MS Access Form Wizard from the Data
menu, proceed through the wizard, and click on the button
Finish. In addition, do not attempt to preview the
            report in Access 97.

o Do not use the additional control Outlook Recipient
Collection Edit OLE in an inserted UserForm in the Visual
            Basic Editor.

o Do not move or copy Excel 97 files (*.xls) from the
Windows NT Explorer to the Briefcase on the Desktop.
Doing so can cause the application to abnormally
            terminate.

     Microsoft Front Page 1.1

o Printing entire books from the Help Topics window may
return a nonfatal error under DIGITAL FX!32 V1.2. Print
individual pages rather than entire books.

     Microsoft Golf 3.0

o This application can overwrite properties in the Display
properties Appearance page, changing the appearance of
the desktop display. If that occurs, either manually
reset the display or perform a logout/login operation.

     Microsoft Internet Explorer

o The x86 version of Internet Explorer is not supported
under DIGITAL FX!32. Use the Alpha version instead,
which you can access from the following URL:

                http://www.microsoft.com/ie/download

     Microsoft Office 95 Standard

o After you successfully install Office 95 Standard,
PowerPoint is not listed in the Start menu Programs
group. You can invoke PowerPoint from the PowerPoint
            folder in the Office folder.

     Microsoft Office 95 Pro

o Ensure that only one version (Alpha or x86) of Microsoft
Schedule+ is installed on your system. You can
successfully install Office 95 on systems with the
            following software configurations:

             - Microsoft Exchange is not installed.

             - Exchange is installed without Schedule+.

             - Exchange is installed with Schedule+, but Schedule+
is not installed with Office 95.

If more than one version of Schedule+ is installed on
your system, then the Office 95 installation is not
            successful.

o Do not install the WordMail option in Office 95 Setup.

o The Office 95 installer creates an inoperative shortcut,
Setup, in the top-level MSOffice directory. That
shortcut attempts (but fails) to run the 16-bit Office
installer program. Remove the Setup shortcut in the
            \MSOffice directory.

o When first opening an Office 95 application, the system
can display an error message stating "File Error: Cannot
find VBRUN300.DLL" When you close this dialog box, the
system displays the following error message: "Can't run
16-bit Windows program- Cannot find file
            C:\msoffice\winword\wdvisex.exe (or one of its
components). Check to ensure the path and filename are
correct and that all required libraries are available".
Click on the button OK to close the dialog box, and the
            error does not recur.

     Microsoft Office 97

o Alpha versions of Excel 97 and Word 97 are available, but
those applications should not be installed on a system on
which x86 Office 97 is also installed. So, if you
require only Excel 97 and Word 97 and you want the full
performance available from native Alpha code, install
those applications and do not install x86 Office 97. If,
however, you require more than those applications,
install x86 Office 97 and run it under DIGITAL FX!32.

o Install Windows Messaging Services before you install
            Office 97.

o When you install Microsoft Office 97, the system should
display a successful installation message. If you do not
receive this message after installing Office 97, the
installation is not successful. In this case, you need
to reboot the system and then reinstall Office 97.

o If you plan to use Microsoft Exchange, select Microsoft
Exchange Server Support during the Office 97
            installation.

o Do not use the shortcut Setup for Microsoft Internet
Explorer 3.01 that is placed on the desktop when Office
97 is installed. Right-click on that shortcut and delete
it. Instead, install the Alpha version of Internet
            Explorer.

o When Office 97 is installed, the shortcut bar MSDOS
button is incorrectly displayed as a question mark (?).
Selecting that question mark returns a dialog box that
reports the file cmd.exe cannot be found. To correct
this, right-click on the icon and select Properties.
Click on the shortcut tab, enter the correct path for the
file cmd.exe, and refresh the toolbar.

o If Microsoft Internet Explorer is your default browser,
the Help>Microsoft on the Web commands function properly.

If Netscape Navigator is your default browser, it must be
running to use any of the Microsoft on the Web options.
If you select Microsoft on the Web options when Navigator
is not running, Navigator starts and then abnormally
            terminates.

o The Setup executable (shortcut) that is located in the
Office 97 subdirectory does not execute. Run Setup from
the Office 97 CD-ROM in the Control Panel Add/Remove x86
Programs to add, remove, or modify Office 97 components.

o If you install the Office 97 Service Release 1 (SR-1),
the system displays several error messages during the
installation process. Click on the OK button to close
each dialog box. The Office 97 SR- 1 installs
            successfully.

o Do not insert Wang controls (including Wang Image Admin,
Wang Image Annotation, Wang Image Edit, Wang Image Scan,
and Wang Image Thumbnail) into Excel, PowerPoint, and
            Word files.

o When opening or saving files in Office 97 applications
(including FindFast), do not connect to or disconnect
from network drives in the Open dialog box, the Save As
dialog box, or the Windows NT Explorer when either the
Open or Save As dialog box is open. Doing so can cause
the application to hang, requiring that you end the
application from the Task Manager. To avoid that,
connect to all required network drives in the Windows NT
Explorer before invoking an Office 97 application.

     Microsoft Outlook 97

o Perform the following steps to run Microsoft Outlook 97:

            1. If you plan to use Microsoft Exchange, select
Microsoft Exchange Server Support during the Office
                97 installation.

            2. After you install Office 97, copy the file
MAPISVC.INF from the \sys32x86 directory to the
\system32 directory. Note that this file must reside
in both directories. When the file exists in both
directories, you need to maintain the most recent
file. For example, if you reinstall Exchange, you
need to copy the newer file MAPISVC.INF from the
\sys32x86 directory to the \system32 directory.

            3. If you are using the Outlook 97 Exchange Client to
connect to an Exchange Server, and the Alpha Exchange
Client is not installed on your system, copy the
                files emsabp32.dll, emsmdb32.dll, emsui32.dll, and
emsuix32.dll from the directory \sys32x86 to the
                directory \system32.

            4. If you require Internet Mail or Microsoft Mail, use
the Mail Control Panel icon to configure Outlook 97
before you invoke Outlook 97 for the first time.

If you invoked Outlook 97 prior to completing the
previous step and the application abnormally
terminated, invoke Outlook 97 after using the Mail
Control Panel icon to configure Outlook 97.

o If the native Alpha Exchange client is installed on your
system as well as Outlook 97, ensure that you select the
option Exit and Log Off when you exit either one of these
applications. If you select the option Exit from the
File menu in either Alpha Exchange or Outlook 97 and not
Exit and Log Off, you can encounter problems when you
attempt to invoke the other application.

o Although you should import Microsoft Schedule+ 95 data
into Outlook 97, note that both the x86 version
(distributed with Office 95) and the Alpha version
(distributed with Exchange) of Schedule+ 95 work
successfully with Outlook 97. The x86 version of
Schedule+ 95 is recommended, and the following
information is provided only for those who need to use
the Alpha version of Schedule+ 95:

             - If the Alpha version of Microsoft Schedule+ 95 is
installed on your system, the system displays three
error messages when you invoke Outlook 97 for the
first time. Click on the OK button to dismiss these
dialog boxes. For each subsequent time that you
invoke Outlook, the system displays two error
messages. Click on the OK button to close these
dialog boxes. In both cases, Outlook 97 runs
                correctly.

             - Invoke the Alpha version of Schedule+ 95 from the
Windows NT Explorer or the Program menu.

o In the Meeting Minder, if you use the option Select
Attendees and Resources to add names to the Required to
attend dialog box, select a name in this list, and then
click on Properties, the application abnormally
terminates. As a workaround, view the properties
associated with specific names before you add the name to
the Required to attend list. In the Select Attendees and
Resources dialog box, choose a name and then click on
            Properties.

o Do not use the option Show More Names in a new mail
message. For example, in a new mail message dialog box,
if you click on the To button, type a name, and then
select Tools>Check Name and click on the option Show More
Names, the application abnormally terminates when you
select a name and click on the OK button.

o Do not select the option Send Options in the Properties
dialog box in a new mail message. Doing so can cause the
            application to abnormally terminate.

     Microsoft PowerPoint 7.0

o Copy the file, \MSOFFICE\POWERPNT\POWERPNT.TLB, to the
System Directory, %SystemRoot%\system32. Failure to do
so can cause the PowerPoint Wizards and some tools not to
            work correctly.

o The Office Standard installer does not create the
PowerPoint shortcut, but it is created by the Office PRO
installer. You can easily add the icon from the Start
            menu/Taskbar.

o Errors have occurred when users attempted to delete an
organizational box by selecting the Cut option from the
Edit dialog box. The workaround is to use the Delete key
(instead of the Cut option) to remove boxes.

o Do not use the Post to Exchange Folder feature. As a
workaround, save the file to your hard disk and copy the
file to an Exchange folder from the Windows NT Explorer.

o Do not use the Genigraphics function in PowerPoint 7.0.
For example, do not attempt to send a file through the
            Genigraphics Link.

     Microsoft PowerPoint 97

o Do not use the Genigraphics function in PowerPoint 97.
For example, do not attempt to send a file through the
            Genigraphics Link.

o If a PowerPoint 97 slide that contains control macros is
opened from a message within Microsoft Exchange,
PowerPoint returns an error stating that some controls on
the presentation cannot be activated. Attempting to use
controls can return further errors. To avoid this,
explicitly open PowerPoint 97 before opening the message
            from Microsoft Exchange.

o Do not open files from the Web Toolbar drop-down list.
Doing so can cause the application to abnormally
            terminate.

o Microsoft Internet Explorer must be the default Web
browser. Otherwise, you can not use the Web toolbar
feature Go>Open to launch a URL or launch inserted
hyperlinks to URLs in slide shows.

o Do not use the additional control Outlook Recipient
Collection Edit OLE in an inserted UserForm in the Visual
            Basic Editor.

     Microsoft Publisher 3.0

o Do not use the PageWizard to create a newsletter
            publication.

o You cannot uninstall Microsoft Publisher 3.0.

     Microsoft Publisher 97

o You cannot uninstall Microsoft Publisher 97.

     Microsoft Word 7.0

o Do not use the Post to Exchange Folder feature. As a
workaround, save the file to your hard disk and copy the
file to an Exchange folder from the Windows NT Explorer.

o The Help for WordPerfect Users wizard can hang if you
select Demo as the Style for WordPerfect Help. If this
happens, press the keys <Alt> and <C> simultaneously and
the wizard continues through the help demonstration.

     Microsoft Word 97

o If you use the Choose Assistant wizard to install a new
Office Assistant, you must press and hold down the Shift
key when you load the required Office 97 CD in the drive.
Once the Office CD is fully running in the drive, release
the Shift key, the requested Office Assistant is
installed, and you are returned to Word 97.

o Do not insert or paste hyperlinks into Word 97 documents
using the menu options Insert Hyperlink, Paste Hyperlink,
or Paste Special>Paste Link>Hyperlink. If you select
these options, the system does not insert or paste
            hyperlinks into Word 97 documents.

o In the Autoformat dialog box, do not use the option
Autoformat and review each change. Doing so causes Word
97 to abnormally terminate. Instead, use the option
Autoformat now to automatically format documents.

o The Web Toolbar commands are not supported.

o Do not use the additional control Outlook Recipient
Collection Edit OLE in an inserted UserForm in the Visual
            Basic Editor.

     Microsoft Works 4.0

o Do not insert the Northwind.mdb database into a file
(such as a letter) that you create with the Works word
processor. Doing so can cause the application to
            abnormally terminate.

o Problems have been reported with the Help feature for
Microsoft Works 4.0. Access Violations have been
reported after multiple Help operations are started and
            closed.

     Microsoft Visual Basic 4.0

o Opening a Table/Query can cause Visual Basic 4.0 to
            abnormally terminate.

     Microsoft Visual FoxPro 5.0

o The following FoxPro 5.0 sample makes an API call that is
            not fully supported in FX!32:

ActiveX > ActiveX Controls > Use Richtext control

     Paradox 7.0

o Exiting from a database produced by the Video Store
Manager (selected from the Database Expert) can cause the
program to abnormally terminate; you recover the Video
Manager database by restarting Paradox 7.0, at which
point the application runs normally. No data is lost.

     WinZIP 6.2

o Self-extracting (executable) files that are created by
this application can abnormally terminate after they are
closed, which can cause FX!32 to abnormally terminate.
This behavior is harmless because the files are
successfully created before the application abnormally
terminates and no data is lost.
