READMENT.TXT 15-AUG-1997

Reliable Transaction Router(TM) (RTR) is an open client/server middleware

for continuous computing.

RTR Engineering is pleased to announce that RTR V3.1D FT for Windows NT is now

available.

INSTALLING RELIABLE TRANSACTION ROUTER.

Please refer to the Installation Guide supplied with previous versions. Note

that this kit runs only on Intel processors. The installation is the same

for both Windows NT and Windows 95.

LIMITATIONS

This release supports TCP/IP and testing has been performed with

the Microsoft implementation. The use of other third-party

TCP stacks is not strictly disallowed, but the results may vary.

RTR supports Phase IV DECnet via Pathworks on both Windows NT

   V3.51 and Windows 95.

Pathworks 32! is not supported due to its incompatibility with

   previous versions of Pathworks.

PROBLEMS CORRECTED

The socket capacity for RTR processes has been increased by

a factor of 10. This will help if you previously received a

dump of the RTR ACP process containing the message

   "NET:API no sockets available".

KNOWN PROBLEMS

1) If an RTR ACP process dies by any means other than the RTR STOP RTR

command, it is highly recommended that you immediately issue the

RTR STOP RTR command in order to update RTR's shared memory tables.

Likewise with the RTR Command Server, it is recommended to type

RTR DISCONNECT SERVER whenever a Command Server dies in an unplanned manner.

2) Remote commands issued via the /NODE and /CLUSTER qualifiers

require the use of 3rd party remote shell services not provided

   with this kit.

3) Some users may encounter a problem running RTR with old versions

of the MSVCRT.DLL library. RTR supplies its own copy of this file

in the same place where SETUP.EXE is installed. You may copy this

file to $SystemRoot\SYSTEM, but you may want to first save the old

copy in case some other Windows application relies on it.

4) This version of RTR may not succeed in connecting to machines

running the Solaris operating system over the DECnet protocol.

   Please use TCP/IP instead.

5) DECnet support will fail on Windows NT V4.0 machines or on 3.51

machines using Winsock V2.0 or greater.

SUMMARY OF NEW FEATURES

   No new features.

DOCUMENTATION

Please read the Release Notes provided with the kit for further information

about any restrictions or known problems for this kit. Please refer to the

Windows NT portion of the Release Notes for platform-specific information.
