Changing DECwindows default window manager? (CDE
 The Question is:

In the new CDE desktop login manager there are options to start with the new
desktop, a failsafe session or a DECwindows session. The default is the new
desktop. Is it possible to change the default to a DECwindows session
without entirely getting rid o
f the possibility of using the new desktop? If so how?

 The Answer is:

The logic that permits the selection of the window manager is built
directly into the DECwindows code, and the default is not customizable.

That said, you can also define the logical name CDE$SESSIONMAIN to
translate to "@SYS$MANAGER:DECW$STARTSM", and place this definition in
the system-wide SYLOGIN.COM or user LOGIN.COM. This technique may not
be particularly documented, but it does allow a way to select the session
manager on a per-user basis (on at least some OpenVMS versions).
