  Diagnosing system hang? 
 The Question is:
 
What in the operating system would cause the operating system itself to
hang?  When I say hang, I mean lock up.  It locks up which therefore it want
create a crash dump file for us to analyze.  We end up having to go down to
the server and restarting it b
ut hitting the reset button.
 
I have looked at all angles and I am at a loss.
 
 
 The Answer is:
 
  Open-ended questions are extremely difficult to answer.
 
  OpenVMS system hangs can potentially be triggered by hardware
  or software problems, or by various system- or process-level
  configuration problems.
 
  Please check for relevent error messages on the system console,
  and then (if nothing obvious is indicated) please follow the
  instructions for generating a system crashdump from the system
  console of the particular system, then (after the reboot) check
  the system error log, and then contact the Compaq Customer Support
  Center for assistance...
