Clearing wedged (hung) process? (take II)
 The Question is:

Some of our system users ids remain active once they have gone and are using up
cpu etc. We have been advised that 2 or more of these processes can cause the
system to crash. We have found no way of killing these processes apart from a
 reboot.
We have two machines running as master/slave and only one of these machines
keeps these processors alive. (in both modes). Where can we start looking for
 the cause?

 The Answer is:

There are insufficient details in this question for a meaningful
response, though the OpenVMS Wizard will assume that a co-worker
has posted details related to this discussions in topic (6146).

The OpenVMS Wizard will assume there is malfunctioning kernel-mode
software involved here -- topic (6146) tends to point to a problem
with the IP stack -- and this kernel-mode problem is triggering a
  process to become undeletable.

The AMDS package may or may not be able to resolve the cause of the
wedged process -- in some cases, the only workaround is to reboot the
system. (Prior to the resolution of the apparent and underlying
  kernel-mode problem, that is.)

The OpenVMS Wizard would encourage applying available ECO kits for
Compaq and/or for third-party products involved in this environment.
If the ECO kits fail to resolve the cause of the wedged process,
please contact the organization supporting the product(s) in use.
