  BACKUP, tapes, and Operator Assistance?
 The Question is:

Is there any way to automatically abort the backup batch job when it hits an
error instead of asking for operator assistance through the OPCOM?

 The Answer is :
To avoid operator requests, use /NOASSIST on the BACKUP command (or the
associated MOUNT command for the tape, if one is used).

If necessary, an operator can abort a command that has issued an
operator request using an appropriate REPLY/ABORT=nnn command.
REPLY/ENABLE, REPLY/STATUS, and REPLY/DISABLE may also be of interest.
