- Hardware Errors, Support, Troubleshooting? The Question is: OI am trying to replace a failed disk drive on a VAX 4000-60. The first drive IM tried was the same part number as the failed drive (ST34573N (Seagate)) withL all of the jumpers installed the same as the original drive. I get a fatal drive error when I tryM to initialize the disk. The disk is recognized and show up as being online.L I have also tried RZ29L drives with the same problem. My system is able toJ boot from, read and write to another disk so I don't suspect a controller problem. I have tried 7 dNifferent disks now all with the same problem and have also tried two differentM VAX4000 systems running the same operating system, VMS 5.5-2. When I try toN do a standalone backup I get a file structure allocation error. Any ideas on what I can do to getCa disk working or suggestions for a particular disk that will work? The Answer is : G The OpenVMS Wizard is generally not in a position to provide hardwareE support, nor to answer hardware-troubleshooting questions. (As wasD mentioned in the introduction, the OpenVMS Wizard is familiar withF OpenVMS, but is generally not a StorageWorks, VAX, Alpha nor Itanium hardware wizard.) G Please forward all questions that are centrally hardware questions orH hardware support requests -- and any questions that involve diagnosingH or resolving hardware problems -- directly to the HP hardware servicesH organization, or please contact your locally-prefered hardware support organization for assistance. E Seven disks reacting similarly would tend to imply that the problemC lies somewhere other than with the disk(s), but that is obviously@ not a certainty. Again, please contact your prefered hardwareD support vendor directly for assistance with this and other similar hardware maintenance matters. 0 Answer written or last revised on 31-MAR-2004
