                          DEVICE DRIVER INSTALLATION
                          ==========================

 Before beginning the software installation, check the hardware settings
 of the CD-ROM controller card with the hardware installation manual.

 The PCDM.SYS driver requires the minimum buffer size of 20 to be
 Multimedia Personal Computer (MPC) compatible. If your system has
 a 386 or 486 processor and you have an extended memory manager present,
 the buffer size of 20 will be allocated during installation. However,
 installing the MPC compatible CD-ROM drive and software driver alone will
 not bring your computer up to the MPC standard. Other items needed to
 become fully MPC compatible include the following: an 80386sx processor
 or better, an MPC-compliant sound board, a VGA video adapter, a color VGA
 monitor, at least 2MB of extended memory available, an extended memory
 manager present, a 3.5" floppy drive (1.44MB capacity), a 30MB hard drive,
 a 101 key keyboard, a two button mouse, a serial port, a parallel port,
 a MIDI I/O port and a joystick port.

 Boot from the hard disk you plan to install the software onto.
 Insert the Installation Diskette into drive A and type,

     A:INSTALL   (Enter)

 The INSTALL.EXE program provides you with two different methods of
 installation: basic installation and custom installation.

 The basic installation program selects the default settings and is
 generally recommended for first time users.

 The custom installation program is designed for more advanced users
 and allows you to change the default settings for the software driver.

 When installation is complete, remove the diskette from drive A
 and reboot the computer by pressing <<Ctrl-Alt-DEL>>.

                            BASIC INSTALLATION
                           =====================

 If you have an AT-Type PC with no extended memory manager present,
 the default loading instructions installed in the CONFIG.SYS
 file by the automatic installation program should look like this:

      LASTDRIVE = M
      DEVICE = C:\PCDM\PCDM.SYS /I:3 /D:MSCD001

 If you have an AT-Type PC with an extended memory manager present,
 the default loading instructions installed in the CONFIG.SYS
 file by the automatic installation program should look like this:

      LASTDRIVE = M
      DEVICE = C:\PCDM\PCDM.SYS /I:3 /M:20 /D:MSCD001

                            CUSTOM INSTALLATION
                           =====================

 Refer to your CD-ROM manual for the software driver switch option
 definitions.

 If you have an AT-Type PC with no extended memory manager present,
 the default loading instructions installed in the CONFIG.SYS
 file by the automatic installation program should look like this:

      LASTDRIVE = M
      DEVICE = C:\PCDM\PCDM.SYS /I:3 /P:300 /M:0 /D:MSCD001

 If you have an AT-Type PC with an extended memory manager present,
 the default loading instructions installed in the CONFIG.SYS
 file by the automatic installation program should look like this:

      LASTDRIVE = M
      DEVICEHIGH = C:\PCDM\PCDM.SYS /I:3 /P:300 /M:20 /D:MSCD001

                               ABOUT PLAYCD.EXE
                          ==========================

     This utility lets you play audio CDs with your CD-ROM drive. You
     will need a headphone set or a pair of external speakers connected
     to the CD-ROM drive to hear the sound being played.
     The installation program will copy PLAYCD.EXE to the \PCDM
     subdirectory on your hard disk. To run the program, type the following
     commands:

         CD \PCDM
         PLAYCD

     The PLAYCD.EXE utility menu has a numbered box at the top
     of the screen that shows the track numbers on your audio CD. Use the
     up-down-left-right arrow keys on your keyboard to highlight the
     desired button.

  Press F1 if you need help or additional explanation of the selected
     function. Explanations and instructions appear on your screen and
     are described briefly in the following paragraphs:

  Play Button
     Use this button to start playing the audio track specified.
     If you have already programmed in your own track numbers, play will
     start from the first programmed track; otherwise, play will start with
     the first track.

  Pause Button
     Use this button to pause the CD in its current play position. Press
     the button again to continue to play.

  Repeat Button
     This button is used to repeat a program. Play will repeat once the
     CD has reached the end of its assigned program.

  Stop Button
     Press this button to stop playback.

  Eject Button
     Press this button to eject the disc. This button is not applicable
     to the PCDM CD-ROM drive.

  Program Button
     This button is used to select tracks in any order, so that you may
     listen to your favorite selections.

  Power Button
     Press this button when you want to exit the program. If music is
     already playing, then it will play in the background. It will not
     play programmed selections in the background.

  Time Button
     This button allows you to toggle between 3 different times:
     1.  Elapsed Time
     2.  Track Time
     3.  Time Remaining

     These times are calculated from when the play button was first pressed.

          Trouble Shooting

          If a problem occurs during installation, or normal
          operation of the CD-ROM unit, these steps should be taken
          to verify that the unit is operating correctly.

          1. Format a blank diskette in your A: drive, making sure
              that you include the "/S" parameter to create a
              bootable system diskette. Refer to your DOS manual for
              instructions on formatting floppy diskettes.

          2. Create a CONFIG.SYS file on the newly formatted
              diskette to load the PCDM.SYS driver ONLY!
              This can be easily accomplished by typing from the
              A: prompt:

                  COPY CON CONFIG.SYS  (Enter)
                  DEVICE=PCDM.SYS /I:3 /D:MSCD001 (Enter)
                  ^Z (This is produced by typing CTRL-Z, Enter)

          3. Copy MSCDEX.EXE and the PCDM.SYS device driver from the
              driver diskette that was included with the CD-ROM drive to
              the newly formatted diskette.
              If you only have one floppy drive, you can copy files between
              diskettes like this:

                      COPY A:MSCDEX.EXE B:  (Enter)

              You will be prompted when to remove the source diskette and
              insert the destination diskette. When this is done, copy
              the other file with the command:

                      COPY A:PCDM.SYS B:  (Enter)

          4. Turn off the computer system and reset the CD-ROM
              controller board to it's factory default jumper
              settings, as shown in the manual. If you have another
              controller in the computer that is using the default
              I/O address, remove that board temporarily for testing.

          5. Reboot the system with the new, bootable, diskette in
              drive A:. You should see the device driver load and
              identify the CD-ROM.

          6. Enter date and time if necessary and continue to the
              A: prompt and type:

                        MSCDEX /D:MSCD001

              The Microsoft CD-ROM Extensions should load and define
              a drive letter to the CD-ROM, note the drive letter.
              You should be able obtain a directory of a CD placed
              in the CD-ROM unit by typing in:

                        DIR d: (where d: is the drive letter of
                                  CD-ROM drive.)

          At this point the CD-ROM is ready to continue testing with
          a CD based piece of software. Choose an appropriate
          software package, ideally something that runs entirely
          from the CD-ROM drive by following the instructions
          included with the software.

          If any errors are encountered while using the unit in this
          environment, please contact your dealer for further
          assistance.
