Dear Customer,

EXM-2 is a semiconductor disk device implemented using flash memory
technology. It is designed to plug into any slot in an EXMbus carrier. A
variety of EXM-2's are available with different memory capacities. EXM-2
appears to software as a write-protected disk, and it may serve as a boot
disk (e.g., for diskless operation). A program is provided to format EXM-2
as a disk and copy files to it.

Although attempts to write to EXM-2 through the operating system
and/or disk BIOS will fail with a write-protect error, there is an EXM-2
specific way to erase and write the flash memory devices. For users needing
the extra security of ensuring that programs can not do this, a write-protect
jumper is provided.

Software provided with the EXM-2 includes the EXM-2 formatting program
and the EXM configuration program. Refer to Section 3 of the EXM-2 Reference
Manual for a complete description of the EXM-2 formatting program.

NOTE that this version of the EXM-2 formatting program is designed
for use with the generation of EXM-2's that have a maximum capacity of 24
flash devices. EXM-2's with a maximum capacity of 16 flash devices are
formatted with a different formatting program. The number of flash devices
that can be accomodated by an EXM-2 board can be determined by a visual
inspection of the board.
