[Default vs. Reset Feature Definition]

1. The Default function allows users to reset their scanner settings back to the user's saved settings.

2. The Reset function allows users to reset their scanner settings back to the UMAX manufacturer's settings.

For more information about using the Default and Reset functions, please see the MagicScan User's Guide.

[Release Notes]

1. As of version 4.6, MagicScan is no longer supported to operate on Windows 3.x.

2. The maximum resolution listed in the Scanner Information window is the maximum interpolated resolution.

3. Any "Flip/Rotate" action performed on a scanned image will remain applied until you reset it to "Normal", even if the driver has been closed and reopened.

4. The "Reset" button does not reset the scan method (i.e. Manual Control), document source (i.e. Transmissive), color space, or resolution.

5. If you are scanning in "AutoCorrection/binuscan IPM" mode (PhotoPerfect Master version) and do not have the dongle properly installed, you will not be able to scan in CMYK.

6. The resolution of the Proof Window is dependent on the preview resolution. The preview resolution will go as high as your system resources will allow. To set your preview resolution, click on the "dpi" button in the lower left corner of the Preview Window. A slider tool will open and you can adjust the preview resolution according to your needs.

7. MagicScan installs the device driver for the UMAX UDS-IS 11 ISA SCSI card as well as the UMAX PCI SCSI card device driver. MagicScan can detect when the UMAX PCI SCSI card is not installed, but cannot detect when the UDS-IS 11 card is not installed. Therefore, if the driver is installed but the card is not, the UDS-IS 11 will show up in the Windows Device Manager as not working properly. If you are using a PCI SCSI card, you can remove this card from your Device Manager without any problems.

8. When using the "Multiple Scan" or "Batch Scan" modes, all scans must be from the same physical scanner, regardless of the number of scanner connected to that computer.

[Troubleshooting]

1. If your scanned images look dirty or have vertical lines, please make sure that your scanner's calibration strip and scanner bed has been cleaned as described in the scanner's Operation Manual.

2. Make sure your scanner is powered on and the ready light is solid before booting up your computer. If the ready light does not go solid, contact your reseller or UMAX Technical support.

3. If your scanner is not communicating with your PC, please make sure that your SCSI card is firmly seated in the expansion slot. You can be sure that the card is fully seated when you can no longer see the gold teeth at the bottom of the SCSI card. If you are sure that your SCSI card is fully seated, you can try reseating it in a different slot.
