This document describes the AHA-1640 MCB-206 SCSI miniport driver
   installation procedures for Windows 95/98.

   2. Driver Installation Procedure
   3. Reinstalling the default Windows driver

 1. BEFORE YOU START

You need a MicroChannel machine with the Adaptec AHA-1640 SCSI host adapter
and the Windows 95/98 operating system.

The AHA-1640 MCB-206 driver is an UPDATE of the Windows AHA-154x/164x
driver. You must have the Windows 95/98 AHA-154x/164x driver installed
before you update it with AHA-1640 MCB-206.

The AHA-1640 MCB-206 supports only the AHA-1640 MCA SCSI Host adapter.

Two separate sets of drivers are provided, for use on Windows 95 or
   Windows 98/98SE.

Unpack the contents of AHA206.ZIP in a directory or on a diskette.
You should have the following files:

     INSTALL TXT -- Installation instructions

     WIN95 <DIR> -- Windows 95 drivers
AHA206 INF Windows driver installation INF file
       AHA1640 MPD AHA-1640 MCB-206 Miniport Driver
AHA1640 LED AHA-1640 MCB-206 Miniport Driver LED Display Monitor

     WIN98 <DIR> -- Windows 98/98SE drivers
AHA206 INF Windows driver installation INF file
       AHA1640 MPD AHA-1640 MCB-206 Miniport Driver
AHA1640 LED AHA-1640 MCB-206 Miniport Driver LED Display Monitor

To differentiate between the Windows AHA-154x/164x driver and the MCB-206
driver, the driver description has been defined as:

   Adaptec AHA-1640 MCB-206 = this driver, AHA-1640 MCB-206.

Adaptec AHA-154X/AHA-164X/AHA-1535 SCSI Host Adapter = Windows driver

A special LED Display Monitor version has been included as AHA1640.LED,
if you wish to use this version, copy AHA1640.MPD from this package to
a safe place, and copy AHA1640.LED to AHA1640.MPD, then reinstall the
driver. Due to additional port accesses, the LED version is slower.

NOTE: AHA-1640 is an MCA adapter and as such resources used by the adapter
are automatically obtained from the adapter POS settings. This means, that
any changes in the Windows AHA-1640 device panel concerning used resources
are rendered useless. You can, however, insert the correct values for the
resources used by the adapter to help Windows resolve resource conflicts
resp. prevent Windows making false resource conflict claims.

 2. DRIVER INSTALLATION PROCEDURE

Click Start, then Settings, then Control Panel.

   Start the "System" applet program.

   Select the "Device Manager" tab.

Select the "SCSI Controller" node in the device tree.

Select the "Adaptec AHA-154X/AHA-164X/AHA-1535 SCSI Host Adapter" entry.

   Push the "Properties" button.

   Select "Driver" tab.

   Push the "Another Driver" button.

Push the "Have Disk" button and press "OK".

Specify the path to the driver files and press the <ENTER> key.

   - If installing on Windows 95 select the subdirectory WIN95
     from the driver disk.

   - If installing on Windows 98/98SE select the subdirectory WIN98
     from the driver disk.

Example 1: Insert the drivers disk in the A: floppy drive,
                  and enter A:\.

Example 2: Type in the name of the directory where you copied
the drivers, either on your local hard drive or
                  on a network share.

Example 3: If you're not sure exactly where the drivers are,
choose the "Browse..." button and find them.

The "Select Device" dialog box will appear. Select the adapter that
corresponds to the one you installed in your machine and click OK.

Windows will copy the miniport driver to the proper directory
   on your system.

Continue choosing Close until asked to restart your machine from the
   "Systems Settings Change" dialog box.

After the system has restarted, you can go back to the Device Manager
   and check the driver settings.

 3. REINSTALLING THE WINDOWS AHA-154x/AHA-164x DRIVER

To reinstall the default Windows driver, perform the installation procedure
   described above.

This time select the "Adaptec AHA-1640 MCB-206" entry.

After the "Have Disk" step, select "Adaptec AHA-154X/AHA-164X/AHA-1535 SCSI
Host Adapter" from the list of suggested drivers.

Windows will reinstall the default driver. Restart your machine to apply
   the changes.

END.
