From Ambra Technical Support (800) 465-2227

This file, COMM.DRV, is an updated serial port driver that will fix problems
associated with the SMC Super I/O chipset in use on the Ambra DP60PCI and
I/VL series.

To install this new driver, simply type the following commands at a DOS
prompt in the directory where you see this README.TXT file.

RENAME C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\COMM.DRV C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\OLDCOMM.DRV
COPY COMM.DRV C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM

The next time Windows 3.1 is loaded on your system, the serial ports will
function normally.

TECHNICAL NOTE:

The problem is associated with the 16550 UART emulation in the SMC Super I/O
chip. The buffer on this chip, which allows higher speed serial transfers
without data loss, is not handled correctly by Microsoft Windows 3.1. This
can cause problems in situations where one windows session initiates more
than one serial connection in succession. Users of high speed external modems and
serial printers will experience this problem.

This updated COMM.DRV driver will allow the buffers on the SMC chip to be
used properly, without sacrificing speed.
