Claas Solutions Migration AssistantThe Migration Assistant is a tool developed under VSE 3.1 to migrate PARTS-GUI-Applications to VisualAge for Smalltalk. At the end of the migration process it is desired to have a VisualAge GUI-Application which looks and acts exactly like the origin PARTS-Application. All parts of the migrated application can be edited in the CompositionEditor of VisualAge.
At the moment the functionality of the application is not ported. A migration of the functionality, which means a migration of the PARTS-links, is not useful in many cases, it would cause a very bad design in VisualAge. Therefore only the menu-links are migrated so far. To ease a postediting in the VisualAge CompositionEditor, the Migration Assistant generates a file which includes a table for each part with all links which are not ported. From this table the user can make a toDo-List to work off the links.

During the migration process the Migration Assistant maps the used PARTS-Classes to its corresponding VisualAge-Classes and adjusts the PARTS-Properties to the VisualAge-Properties.

The correct look and acting of the application is reached by adjusting the values of the VisualAge-Classes properties and by attaching the parts in a way that achieves the same behavior on a resize like in the VSE-Application. |
By the Migration Assistant the user is spared to set all the little things like fonts, colors, attachment, size etc.
