geoInterfaceTM - mapping made simplegeoInterface uses the VisualAge® for Smalltalk visual graphic programming environment to allow developers to create applications by connecting already built components. These components are easy to create, use and maintain, and provide maximum opportunity for code and object reuse - ensuring enhanced productivity.
geoInterface can exchange data with all of IBM's other Geographic
Facilities Information System (GFIS) products. Since geoInterface
operates on personal computers, GFIS users can now take their maps and
data out to the field with them by using IBM ThinkPads®
and other laptops. Annotation such as field notes, can be easily added
to the maps and updating data can be completed with the click of a button.
Maps can easily be imbedded in reports through simple cut and paste operations.
The basic map manipulations are enabled through point and click icons with on screen instructions. Zoom, pan, select, edit, move center, copy to clipboard, measure, trace and draw functions icons are all part of the sample application, The handy scale window is visible as you navigate across the geography. The measure icon provides continuous measuring as you drag the cursor. Double clicking posts the measurement to the screen.
Simple queries require just a single pointing. More complex queries can be initiated by either selecting an area - this highlights all of the facilities contained within the polygon - or by building a query. Building a query is nearly as simple - just select an item to query and the data fields you are interested in. If you don't know what feature to select, simply highlight one from the list provided. You can also use Boolean operations (equal to, greater than, less than, etc.) as a part of the query also via selectable lists. The results of the query can be saved for future work.
geoInterface User Edition is US$865.
geoInterface Developer Edition is US$1560.
Both are available on OS/2® and Windows 95/NT®.
