IBM LanguageWare Dictionary, Spell Check, and Thesaurus Parts

The LanguageWare product provides a set of linguistic functions used by software applications to process text. This technology including spell-aid, synonym-aid, text analysis, and text extraction, has been used in many IBM products.

Now some of these linguistic functions have been developed into VisualAge parts: Dictionary, Spell Check, and Thesaurus. The Dictionary part, a non-visual part, provides actions for spell-verify, spell-aid, synonym-aid, and addenda processing. The Spell Check, a visual part to be used with the multi-line editor or text entry field in an application, identifies invalid words and suggests candidates from which a user can select a word for replacement. The Thesaurus, also a visual part, takes a word as input and provides a list of words with similar meanings.

With these parts, your business applications can easily use the LanguageWare services via visual construction. The text input in your business application can be spell checked to ensure its correctness. Your corporate or industry terms can be added to the addenda for spell checking. Synonyms can be used to add variety to the description of items in a catalog.

A set of international dictionaries, LanguageWare International Dictionary Packs, are available as additional features. The International Dictionaries are packaged as follows:

• International Dictionary Pack 3: Canadian French and French
• International Dictionary Pack 4: German and Swiss German
• International Dictionary Pack 5: Dutch (Modern) and Dutch (Preferred)
• International Dictionary Pack 6: Danish, Norwegian (Bokmal), Norwegian (Nynorsk), and Swedish
