Tivoli** Developer Kit for VisualAge for Smalltalk

The Tivoli Developer Kit enables VisualAge developers to create management-ready Smalltalk applications that adhere to the Application Management Specification (AMS). The AMS provides a comprehensive specification for effective management of client/server applications by addressing such critical functions as software distribution, event monitoring, and dependency checking.

Using the Developer Kit, the developer can transfer knowledge about the management of an application and its components to an operations or systems management organization.

The Developer Kit allows you to

• Define a set of directories by symbolic name for use in managing the application.
• Configure standard dependency checks and to create new dependencies for software installation.
• Specify file list and installation scripts for software installation.
• Define synchronous monitors that monitor an application component.
• Define standard tasks that can be used for managing an application component.
• Define relationships between components and programs to either instantiate or query those relationships.

VisualAge for Smalltalk version 4 includes the Tivoli Connection feature that allows you to instrument your application by generating Tivoli events. Together with the Developer Kit, you have the tools needed to make your application Tivoli-ready.
