ARGOS

ARGOS extends the IBM Smalltalk/Visual Age Development Environment with model-based tools for creating and deploying large-scale enterprise applications. From analysis and design to implementation and then maintenance, ARGOS provides sophisticated modeling tools for each task.

ARGOS provides a modeling tool that enables the analyst to define object types by constructing visual diagrams conforming the Rumbaugh methodology. The interactive nature of the ARGOS modeling tools keep visual models synchronized with code, making changes either to the visual model or directly to the code immediately reflected on each other.

ARGOS makes it easy to develop the design incrementally in whatever order the designer chooses, generating graphical user interfaces based on the model. The interface developer may deploy these as given, or tweak various attributes or extend the capabilities with custom code.

ARGOS provides full access to the underlying Smalltalk language. The common object types are already in place, having been tested, refined and stabilized. Developers can version their evolving static object models, object definitions, user interfaces and reports using the underlying configuration management tools. To control the sharing process, developers can organize a software application into modular subapplications, each with its associated static object model, object definitions, interfaces and reports.

When it comes time to deploy the application, ARGOS removes unwanted development tools, unused portions of the library and other items from the runtime environment, producing the smallest possible Smalltalk executable on the market.
