TMCS Technical Monitoring and Control System
The TMCS (Technical Monitoring and Control System) is a special case
of a Process Visualisation and Control System. It is used for control and
configuration of a distributed VCS (Voice Communication System). It was
developed with Visual Age Smalltalk for OS independency and is available
for OS/2, AIX and Windows NT. The System is based on a Client/Server technology
and is scalable from a single PC solution to a redundant distributed UNIX
system.
The main components:
-
Protocol converters - used to convert external interface protocols
for state and parameter information to the internal software interface.
At the moment HDLC, Siemens 3964R and PPP are implemented. These are used
to implement proprietory or open protocols like SNMP and (T)FTP.
-
CommPC - used to monitor and configure the attached system. State messages
and other system data are sent over a named pipe to one or more monitoring
and control servers, they receive commands and parameters which are sent
back to the system.
-
Monitoring and Controlling Server (MCS) - used to combine the received
data from the system and data stored in a database (Oracle). The MCS generates
log files, statistic files and satus files which are also stored in the
database. Via the distributed feature the MCS is communicating with the
clients.
-
Client - the interface to the users. They can modify parameters, issue
commands and control the state of the attached system. Historical data
can be retrieved from the database and printed.
