IBM Smalltalk Basics (5 days)

The basic concepts of object-oriented technologies are explained, and you will learn how to execute them with IBM Smalltalk. Main topics include the Smalltalk language structure, the Smalltalk class libraries and the Smalltalk development environment. Using many real world examples, you will learn how to use standard programming skills. Techniques of implementation, the utmost usage of the class libraries, and the utilization of the IBM Smalltalk tools are taught intensively. All samples are taken from actual situations to help ensure that you receive hands-on experience which you can use immediately after the course ends.

IBM Smalltalk Application Development (5 days)

This course adds to the 5-day seminar "IBM Smalltalk Basics." The use and extension of IBM Smalltalk is intensified and specific subsystems like CommonWidgets, CommonGraphics, Common Process Model, and Common File System are discussed in detail. IBM Smalltalk and the GUI Builder are taught with hands-on exercises to enable you to solve very subtle problems.

IBM Smalltalk Professional/Team Programming (3 days)

The main aspect of the course is the development of applications using IBM Smalltalk in a team of programmers. The focus is placed on the entire object-oriented development and life cycle starting from a manager and ending with an programmer's point of view. You will write your first lines of code in a method, and finish with a full-blown application including configuration mapping, repository use and trustee distribution. Predefined chapters introduce a full set of real-time lessons showing the main key object-oriented concepts and their cooperation with development tools, version control and configuration management.

Introduction to VisualAge (5 days)

Fast and intense, this real-life course introduces you to the visual programming paradigm, the usage of "parts" under VisualAge, and the production of methods for client/server applications. The main focus is on the vast component library of VisualAge, which enables you to construct applications with a minimum of traditional programming techniques. You also get a first impression of IBM Smalltalk as a truly object-oriented programming language. Additionally, you will learn about the power and flexibility of the object-oriented technologies incorporated in VisualAge, through lessons consisting of test samples and learning about applications from different real-world areas. One of the scenarios deals with the integration of an RDBI--relational database--using DB2/2.

Application Development with VisualAge and IBM Smalltalk (5 days)

Adds to the 5-day seminar "Introduction to VisualAge" and deals with the development of productive "mission-critical" client/server applications. The main emphasis is on topics such as: adaptation of existing parts, creation of reusable business parts, utilization of Smalltalk for the implementation of the business logic, performance tuning and team development projects. Hands-on exercises intensify the learning experience through the design and implementation of a large application. All relevant object-oriented concepts are explained during the application development, to yield a valid experience of VisualAge and IBM Smalltalk.
