SerMapSerMapThe standard software R/3 from SAP covers a large part of the business management functionality of a company. There is still the need for the development of individual solutions. SerMap is the solution for the resulting requirements. SerMap is a software component which makes it possible to access business management components of R/3 and all its existing data and functions from VisualAge. Using the RFC (remote function call) technology provided by SAP R/3, SerMap smoothly integrates R/3 components as classes in VisualAge. SerMap enables consistent integration of individual applications with the SAP R/3 system to create a complete solution.
The mapping of the application data and data-types onto VisualAge objects hides all R/3 functions from the application developer. A VisualAge programmer without R/3 knowledge can therefore develop applications for individual solutions in a short time without additional education.
Since SAP R/3 is a client/server system, SerMap coordinates the communication between the client application for which the classes were developed, and the server where SAP R/3 is running. In this way, SerMap is responsible for the automatic and continuous data consistency between the application program and SAP R/3.
With its own class library, SerMap makes application classes available whose corresponding data and functions lie in R/3. Which R/3 application types are mapped to classes, and the design of the static and dynamic class diagram, is defined for each customer individually.
