Visual Mail

Visual Mail provides a flexible framework for integrating common electronic communications into your IBM Smalltalk and VisualAge applications. Several popular frameworks are supported including:

• MAPI (Mail Application Programming Interface) for sending information to mail-enabled applications such as Microsoft-Mail, Lotus Notes, cc:Mail, AT&T EasyLink, and many other packages
• Serial communications to modem-based services such as CompuServe
• Simple Mail Transport Protocol (SMTP) for TCP/IP-based messaging

A common set of services insulates the developer from the complexities of low-level interfacing to these different mail systems. Access to other mail services can be easily added based on the supplied frameworks.

Applications can now take advantage of standard electronic mail routing services from VisualAge applications. Several sample applications are included for both IBM Smalltalk and VisualAge environments. Visual Mail is available as an add-on to Visual EIS.
