Caprera**The Caprera programmable server for off-line transaction processing (OFTP) allows IS departments, ISVs, Systems Integrators, and VARs to easily implement OFTP applications. OFTP is a rapidly emerging new transaction processing model for mobile/remote database-oriented applications.
Just as on-line transaction processing (OLTP) applications have
made business processes within enterprise walls more efficient,
OFTP applications further enhance the efficiency of business processes
by extending the benefits of shared databases to external participants
over WAN infrastructure including telephone land lines, wireless,
private and value added networks (VANs), and the Internet. OFTP
makes it possible for workers in the field to easily access and
work with shared data from enterprise databases even while they
are disconnected from the corporate LAN.
An OFTP application consists of an enterprise database residing on a server, mobile/remote client applications for manipulating data off-line, and an OFTP server to tie them together. While there are plenty of software products available today to build and manage both enterprise databases and client applications, no off-the-shelf OFTP servers have been available before Caprera. Organizations that needed OFTP applications in the past have custom built this critical third piece from the ground up. Caprera is the first programmable OFTP server to be offered off-the-shelf.
With the availability of Caprera, and because of it's open architecture, most of the custom development work associated with OFTP applications has been eliminated. OFTP applications can now be completely built from off-the-shelf products. Also, with Caprera existing LAN-based OLTP applications can be easily extended to the external organization. By using Caprera, organizations can considerably decrease the risk, cost, and time associated with implementing an OFTP application. Further, by drastically driving down the skill level required to implement these applications, Caprera makes them accessible to organizations that could not otherwise afford them.
