The Application Security Framework (ASF) provides a simple, elegant facility to control access to portions of a Smalltalk application.
This product was created by Jonathan Pletzke, author of Advanced Smalltalk, a new book published by John Wiley & Sons (ISBN: 0-471-14966-7).
ASF provides User and Group access controls to portions of an application program. It will work with any external data source to store and retrieve user and group privileges.
The Application Security Framework authenticates the users using an external authentication function. It guarantees that protected blocks of code will not be executed unless the user has the proper authorizations. It retrieves the user profile on logon from the external data source, maintains it in memory, and does not provide any additional validation against the external source after logon.
Additionally, it provides a standard user interface for logging on and off the host. It maintains the state of the user during the session and includes states as defined by the components of the system. These states may include: loggedOn, loggedOff, communicationsError, error, or any other state determined to be useful for this class.
Application Security Framework is available for IBM Smalltalk and VisualAge Smalltalk for Windows and OS/2, Stand-alone or Pro versions.
The price is $150.00 per developer license. There is no run time fee.
