ExpressLane

ExpressLane is a software solution that provides easy, high-speed access to corporate enterprise data from VisualAge C++, Visual Basic, Microsoft Office, PowerBuilder or any ODBC-enabled applications without compromising the security of corporate information assets. ExpressLane minimizes network traffic, manages security access, and leverages DB2's optimization features. However, programmers find it difficult to meet Online Transaction Processing (OLTP) standards for performance, security, and control when accessing enterprise data. ExpressLane accelerates performance in an enterprise computing environment as it preserves corporate data security.

Catalog Cache and Static Bind

ExpressLane includes a Catalog Cache and ODBC Static Bind. Together, these give the production application database access speed that rivals that of mainframe-based 3GL applications. ODBC Static Bind users to create statically bound, application-specific packages in DB2/MVS. Having pre-bound packages on the host eliminates the “prepare” step required for most ODBC applications and minimizes network usage. The XDB Catalog Cache provides an additional layer of optimization. By moving portions of the DB2 system catalog to the Catalog Cache, catalog queries that would normally have gone to DB2 can be resolved at the desktop or server, thus minimizing both network traffic and the load on the DB2 system.

DRDA Support

ExpressLane for Visual Basic offers two options for connecting clients to DB2: direct connection via IBM's Distributed Relational Database Architecture (DRDA) and connection via a DRDA gateway. The gateway solution uses a server to funnel requests and responses to the mainframe, while the direct connect approach allows PCs to access the mainframe directly. Direct connect essentially places gateway functionality at the desktop.

By combining IBM's DRDA with Microsoft's ODBC API standards, ExpressLane leverages and optimizes both workgroup and enterprise architectures to provide the best, highest performance, most robust ODBC-to-DB2 solution available.

ExpressLane is available for OS/2, Windows NT, Windows 95, and NetWare. Pricing begins at $1395 and quantity discounts are available.
