Creating a secure link using the SSL protocol

To establish a secure link using this Enhanced Mosaic SSL-capable browser requires nothing more than clicking a link that begins with the https:// prefix. The https:// prefix indicates the server is SSL capable.

If you know the URL for a secure server, you can establish a secure link to it by

1. Clicking the Open URL icon
   Or
   On the File menu, click Open URL

2. Enter https:// followed by the URL

The SSL code in the browser and in the server communicate using the https protocol to authenticate the server.

SSL encrypts the data so no one can read the data on the connection and ensures that the data is not changed during transmission. This allows you to send your credit card number to a secure store site without fear that the digits can be read off the network.
