This is MILO -- a bootstrap loader for Linux/MIPS on ARC compliant
systems. Please send comments, bug reports and so on to the
Linux/MIPS developers' mailinglist linux-mips@fnet.fr.

MILO has been successfully tested on Deskstation Tyne, Acer
PICA-61 Mips Magnum 4000 and Olivetti M700-10 systems. There
is some Deskstation rPC44 support included but not yet tested.

If you have an ARC system which is not identified by MILO,
please send us the ARC Vendor ID, Product ID, System ID and
any information MILO wasn't able to find out. We will include
your system in later releases.

NOTE: Some parts of MILO were written by using copyrighted and
properietary information of Microsoft Corporation and Silicon
Graphics, Inc. These parts cannot be released in source code but
are provided as a library which can be distributed in binary form
under the terms of the GNU PUBLIC LICENSE (GPL) except the fact
that you can't get the source for these files. For all other files
the GPL applies. See the file COPYING for details.

This release of Milo implement the new long standing argument passing
scheme (NAPS). In few words, Milo doesn't write to kernel's image in
memory what it had found about the box, it write it down instead at the
end of the memory - and optionnaly pass to the kernel in the register
a0 where is this end :) - kernel is responsible for doing whatever it
wants with this (we call this pieces of info 'tags'): crashing,
bombing,... and well booting.

This release contains binaries too. If you want to compile MILO
yourself, please make sure that you have the latest release of
Linux/MIPS which is currently 1.3.58 with NASP patchs, NASP support
will be included in subsequent 1.3.xx releases. Other combinations
of Linux/MIPS and Milo *will not* work because of the NASP. Without
kernel sources you cannot compile MILO.

 Have fun,

Please note that the former mainteners of Milo were our great
Linux/MIPS kernel and project hackers, mamely, in alphabetical order:
