Date: February 8, 1993 Bulletin: B-930208-1 Subject: System panics when accessing floppy drive Enclosed is a floppy containing the patch required to correct floppy drive problems with the Solaris 1.0.1 SPARCbook Version B operating system. To install this patch, login as root and do the following: 1) Install the sys cluster using /usr/etc/install/add_clusters. (See pages 249-251 of the SPARCbook 1 Users Guide, Issue 2, P/N 980 001.) 2) There is a known problem when installing the sys cluster. The work-around for it is to remove the sun4 directory, and link tadpole_s1 to sun4. This can be done by issuing the following commands: # cd /sys # rm -r sun4 # ln -s tadpole_s1 sun4 3) Change to the root directory using the following command: # cd / 4) Install the patch files using the following command: # rsh server_name dd if=/dev/rfd0a bs=18k | tar xvfpBb - 36 Where server_name is the machine that has a floppy drive. You must have that system's name and internet address in your /etc/hosts file, and that system must have the necessary files configured to allow you to access the floppy drive. At this point the system kernel must be reconfigured. Please refer to the Sun System & Network Administration Guide for details on reconfiguring the system kernel. If you should experience any problems with this procedure, please contact Tadpole Technology at 1-800-232-1881 and ask for SPARCbook Customer Support. Sincerely, SPARCbook Customer Support
