Date: June 17, 1993 Bulletin: B-930617-1 Subject: Patching FAXtool to work with new SPARCbook 2 modem firmware The versions of faxsend, faxreceive, and faxclient distributed with the Solaris 1.0.1 SPARCbook Version B.1 and B.1.1 operating system releases do not recognize modem firmware Version 1.000. If you are encountering the error "unidentified modem" when attempting to send a fax with FAXtool or faxsend, check the version of the modem firmware by doing the following: 1. Connect to the modem via cu % cu modem96 2. Display the version of the modem firmware ati3 3. Disconnect ~. If the modem responded with "V1.000", follow the instructions below to patch faxsend, faxreceive, and faxclient. 1. Login as root and change to the /usr/bin directory, # cd /usr/bin 2. Create a backup copy of faxsend, faxreceive, and faxclient, # cp faxsend faxsend.orig # cp faxreceive faxreceive.orig # cp faxclient faxclient.orig 3. Fix the ownership of the faxsend and faxreceive copies (faxclient is owned by root), # chown uucp.staff faxsend.orig faxreceive.orig 4. Use adb to change "V0.310P" to the new firmware version "V1.000" # echo "850b?W 56312e30; 850f?W 30300000" | adb -w faxsend # echo "8593?W 56312e30; 8597?W 30300000" | adb -w faxreceive # echo "aeeb?W 56312e30; aeef?W 30300000" | adb -w faxclient If you should experience any problems with this procedure, please contact Tadpole Technology at (800) 232-1881 and ask for SPARCbook Customer Support.
