ConfiX help file
================

Introduction
------------
ConfiX is a simple universal configuration utility that
can be used to create and maintain configuration files for
your programs. Most of our own software supports the ConfiX
protocol and will call !ConfiX whenever the option Choices...
is selected from the iconbar menu of the application.

Installation
------------
!ConfiX must have been 'seen' by the filer before the client
application can launch it. It is therefore best placed inside
the '!Boot.Resources' directory on your harddisc. To open this
directory:

 - Open the root directory of your main harddisc.
 - Shift-double-click on !Boot.
 - Open the 'Resources' folder.
 - Copy !ConfiX inside this folder.
 - Restart the machine (or double click !ConfiX).

Clients
-------
An application that uses !ConfiX' facilities to create
and edit its configurations files, is called a client.
The name of the client is always shown in the title of
the main ConfiX-window and many clients may use !ConfiX
simultaneously.

Changing !ConfiX' own configuration
-----------------------------------
!ConfiX is an application in its own right and is therefore
a perfect example of ConfiX-client. Open the program-menu
(middle mouse button over the main ConfiX-window) and
click 'Options...'. This will open a new ConfiX-window
containing ConfiX' own settings.

Protocol
--------
If you want to include support for !ConfiX in your own
applications, a minimum of work has to be done. A full
description for programmers (API) including a number of software
examples in BBC BASIC is available from our website (see below).

Updates
-------
The latest version of !ConfiX is always available from:

   http://www.xat.nl/en/riscos/sw/confix/

Licence
-------
!ConfiX is copyright of X-Ample Technology BV of The Netherlands.
It may be distributed free of charge, provided that the full
application is supplied (including this file) and no alterations
are made. If !ConfiX is supplied with a commercial software package,
no fees will be required, but an evaluation copy of that package
would be appreciated.
