Description
-
The Solaris Management ConsoleTM Software Development Kit (SDK) is a distributed software environment that enables developers to create remote, Web-based management applications that run from the Solaris Management Console, Microsoft Management Console, or any standard Web browser.
The SDK is composed of three main components:
- Tools - For applications that manage or administer the SolarisTM Operating Environment, an application GUI toolkit provides a common look and feel for wizards, dialog boxes, or tab panels.
- Console - Helps build custom consoles with added functionality such as tool bars, menu bars, display hierarchy, and information panes.
- Services - This software performs server-side processing to ensure that tools and consoles are well integrated. Provides common services like authentication, authorization, logging, and security.
Requirements
- Solaris 8, Solaris 7 or Solaris 2.6 Operating Environment on SPARCTM processor or Intel platforms
- 1.4 MB of disk space for installation of all components of the JavaTM 2 JDK
Performance
SDK improves Solaris Operating Environment performance:
- Configuration. For example, configuring network services such as DNS server can be accomplished via easy-to-use wizards.
- Administration. All administration tools are located in one central location.
- Remote management. The Solaris Management Console graphically manages remote servers on the network.
Benefits
- Fast, easy development of Solaris management and administration applications
- Substantial cost savings
- Infrastructure services (authentication, security)
- Consoles for tools and applications
- Application GUI toolkit for standard user interface
- Flexibility - Write Once, Run AnywhereTM
- Web browser
- Solaris Management Console 2.0
- Microsoft Management Console
- Stand-alone mode
- Solaris Operating Environment, Windows NT/2000
- SPARC processor, Intel platforms
- Broad Application Support - The Solaris Managment Console can run multiple types of applications:
- Java technology-based management tools
- HTML, servlets
- X/Motif
- Command Line Interface (CLI), scripts
- Interoperability - Applications support a number of Internet standards:
- Communication: RM, HTTP, XML
- Agents: SNMP, Solstice SyMONTM, WBEM
- Consoles: Netscape, Microsoft Management, Solstice SyMON
- Open and Extensible - The SDK is built on standard, Internet standards
(e.g., JavaBeansTM components, RMI, XML/HTTP, CIM) that allow SDK tools and consoles to fit into existing system infrastructures. Functionality can be easily added and the SDK can readily adopt new standards.
