Solaris Resource Manager TM

Description

The Solaris Resource ManagerTM 1.0 product is a software tool that ensures resource availability for users, groups, and applications. It allocates and controls major system resources, such as CPU, virtual memory, and number of processes. Solaris Resource Manager also enables server consolidation and increases system resource utilization.

In the traditional model, an application was hosted on a single system. Now, SolarisTM Operating Environment server resources can be controlled using methods similar to those used by mainframe-class systems. Multiple applications and groups are guaranteed a consistent level of service on a single server.

Resources can also be allocated to individual users. By dynamically allocating unused capacity and resources to active users and applications, resource utilization is increased.

Systems become easier to manage when system administrators are able to set and enforce resource usage policies. And current resource usage data is available for user-defined accounting tools and scripts.
