Solaris Directory Services 3.1
SunTM Directory Services 3.1
provides a comprehensive and flexible directory and
naming service. It federates all of an organization's
information into a single database that is accessible
from any web server.
The product contains:
- A Lightweight Directory Access Protocol (LDAP) server, compliant
with the LDAP v3 Internet standards
- An LDAP replication service
- A Network Information Service (NIS) server, that integrates into an existing NIS environment to provide an integrated naming service
- A Remote Access Dialup User Service (RADIUS) server that provides authentication for remote users connecting to the network through a Network Access Server (NAS), and that also provides accounting services
- A JavaTM administration console that offers local and remote configuration and management
- A Java directory editor and browser, called Deja, for maintaining directory information
- A web gateway that offers access to the directory from any web browser
- A set of administration commands, including data import and export utilities
- SNMP agents for monitoring by a management application
Sun Directory Services also offers the following security features:
- Encryption of communications between client and server using SSL (provided the SSL library is installed)
- Strong authentication in bind through the SASL protocol
- Password encryption in RADIUS transactions
Installation Requirements
Sun Directory Services 3.1 runs on SolarisTM SPARCTM and x86 systems with 64 Mbytes of RAM.
The product requires a Solaris 2.6 or compatible operating environment, and
a Java compatible browser. HotJava 1.0.1 is recommended.
If you want to use SSL security features, you need to install the SSL
libraries provided with Sun WebServerTM. Note that due to legal restrictions in certain countries, SSL is not available worldwide.
