Introduction
------------

Minesweeper ST is a logical game very similar to the Minesweeper for Windows
on the PC's. It runs on all ST's, and probably also on TT and Falcon computers
(this is not tested yet!) with a color monitor or TV in ST LOW resolution.
The game is controlled by the mouse and keyboard. Minesweeper ST consists of
4 files:

MINE.PRG --> The main programme
MINE.GFX --> Some graphics
MINE.HI  --> Hiscores
MINE.TXT --> The file you're reading at the moment

These files must be placed in the same directory.

Public Domain message
---------------------

Minesweeper ST is Public Domain. That means that you are encouraged to copy
it freely, (always ALL files together). You mustn't change any part of the game
and MUSTN'T SELL IT! If you enjoy the game and would like to get the source
code written in GFA BASIC, send an empty floppy and some money (as much
as you think the author deserves for his work) to the address below.

                          Playing Minesweeper
                     ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The playing area consists of a minefield with closed squares at the begin-
ning. Some fields cover a mine and if you open them, the game is over. The
aim of the game is to open all the squares except those with mines.
You can open a single square by 'clicking' on it with the left mouse button.
If there is a mine, the game ends. If not, there may be a number from 1 to 8,
which shows how many mines surround that square. These numbers will help you
to avoid opening those squares with mines. If the opened square contains
neither a mine nor a number, the programme will automatically open all the
empty squares adjacent to the currently opened, until it reaches squares with
numbers.
Marking the mines
-----------------
If you're sure that a particular square covers a mine, you should mark it
by clicking on it with the right mouse button. A flag will appear on the
square and the mine-counter will be decreased by one. But, if you are not quite
sure, you can press the right button again, and a question mark will appear on
the square. Pressing the right button again, it will disappear and the square
will be unmarked just like in the beginning.
The second way to open squares is to place the mouse pointer on a square with
a number, and to press both the left and right mouse buttons. This is allowed
only if you marked exactly the same number of squares around the selected as the
number in the square shows. If there are less marked squares, you will see
some flashing squares. Those squares could contain a mine according to the
number inside the opened square.
If you have marked a correct number of squares, the programme will open the
squares around except the marked ones. If your marks had been placed well,
you can continue with the game, in other case a mine will explode meaning
the end. After the explosion the mines will be displayed.
There are three levels of playing: Beginner, Intermediate and Expert. In
these modes the size of the minefield and the number of mines is fixed. If
you would like to create a custom size playing area and number of mines,
set the parameters with the up and down arrows and select "Custom". The first
number represents the width, the second the height of the minefield and the
third the amount of mines in percents. For example: If you select a minefield
of 10x20=200 squares with 20% mines, you'll have 40 mines.
Your score is the time spent for finishing the game. Hiscores are recorded on
the Beginner, Intermediate and Expert levels. If there's a file called
"MINE.HI" in the folder of the game it will be loaded. If you had achieved
a new hiscore during the play, it will be automatically saved after exiting.
Have fun playing Minesweeper!
