Installation Help
-----------------
The Setup procedure offers three different installation configurations:

     * A "Minimum" installation, which installs the server executables,
server configuration executables, help files, and miscellaneous
	fonts.

     * A "Complete" installation, which installs all components of the
EXALT product. This includes the components installed with
a "Minimum" installation as well as the following font groups:
	- 100dpi Fonts
	- 75dpi Fonts
	- Miscellaneous Asian Fonts
	- Speedo Fonts

     * A "Customized" installation, which prompts the user to select the
	particular components to be installed.

This installation allows the user the flexibility to select
desired font components along with the executables during the
initial installation. The user can then run Setup again at a
later date and use this option to install additional fonts.

Customized installation facilitates the delivery of fonts as
separate font packs. The font packs may be placed into any
desired directory when they are delivered separately from
        the product executables.

For each font pack, other than MISC that you load, you must
indicate the location of the font using the "Font Path Options"
configuration client. This will allow you to add fonts to the
        server font path.

Miscellaneous fonts, MISC, must reside in the same directory
        as the eXalt executables.

The components available for installation are:

    Intergraph X Window System:
    ---------------------------
This component delivers the core images of the Intergraph
X Window System for Windows NT:

	* Runtime DLLs, server executable, and data files

	* Configuration executables and data files

	* On-line help files for the configuration and server
	   executables

    Fonts:
    ------
The eXalt product delivers 100dpi, 75dpi, and miscellaneous
fonts provided with X11 R5 from MIT. In general, 100dpi and
75dpi fonts may be used with any screen resolution. The
comments for 100dpi and 75dpi fonts are provided as guidelines,
    not configuration requirements.

    100dpi Fonts:
    -------------
Select 100dpi fonts if your monitor resolution is higher than
1024x768. At resolutions greater than 1024x768, 100dpi fonts
will be correctly proportioned because their finer granularity
is suited to higher screen resolutions. 100dpi fonts are
installed to the sub-directory FONT\100DPI under the product
    directory selected during Setup.

    75dpi Fonts:
    ------------
Select 75dpi fonts if your monitor resolution is lower than
or equal to 1024x768. 75dpi fonts are installed to the
sub-directory FONT\75DPI under the product directory selected
    during Setup.

    Miscellaneous Fonts:
    --------------------
Fonts needed to support the basic presentation of text by the
windowing system. The fonts are required for the X server to
function. Miscellaneous fonts are installed in the directory
FONT\MISC under the home product directory selected during Setup.

    * Miscellaneous fonts must be delivered when the server
      executables are initially loaded.

    * Miscellaneous fonts must be delivered to the same home
      directory as the server executables.

    Miscellaneous Asian Fonts:
    --------------------------
Fonts of the Asian language character sets

    Speedo Fonts:
    -------------
    Fonts of the Speedo class

For more information about X fonts and the screen resolutions they
support, please consult the O'Reilly X Manuals. The O'Reilly X Manuals
may be ordered through Intergraph Documentation Distribution Department.

Getting Started
---------------
A serial number is required to install and run the eXalt product.
If the serial number provided with the product kit is intended to
facilitate product evaluation, then it will begin with an upper
case "E". This kind of serial number is valid only for a limited
period of time, and whenever the server is activated a dialog box
will appear, displaying the date of expiration.

The Intergraph X Window System for Windows NT supports resolutions
of 640x480 on up, but it does not support 4 bit mode because it is
plane oriented. Exalt works on color depths of 8, 16, and 24 bits.

The Intergraph X Window System for Windows NT is configurable to
provide an environment that is attractive as well as flexible.
The environment can be configured using the configuration clients
represented by icons in the eXalt program manager group.

The eXalt User's Guide provided with the product kit describes
configuration clients, what they do, and how they are used to
setup and customize the eXalt environment. Please refer to
this document for information on configuring and starting the
eXalt Server.

Whenever fonts are loaded, you should verify that the fonts are
properly represented in the font path. This should be done
using the "Font Path Options" configuration client. This client
should be activated using the "Font Path Options" in the eXalt
group window of the program manager. This topic is discussed in
section 3.5 of the eXalt User's Guide.

Open Issues
-----------
Clients which draw directly to the root window will not display
in multiple window mode. Examples of this are scrawl and xswarm.

Although every effort has been made to avoid colormap flashing,
    it will occasionally happen.
