Introduction
============

This is an early-access release of PC-NFS for the Windows NT
Operating System, a software package that consists of an NFS client and
utilities to allow time synchronization and remote command execution.
This is a pre-release version, so you should expect to find some
problems, perhaps severe enough to destroy your data. Please be
careful.

It is likely that by the time you receive this, a later version will be
available in the SunSelect forum on CompuServe. Please use the later
version if at all possible; it should be more reliable and faster.

While there is no charge for this version or those available on
CompuServe, we do intend to charge for a future version. To
"encourage" you to purchase that version, this version expires on March
31, 1994, at which point it will cease to function. Please feel free
to use this version, or any later version we make available on
CompuServe, until it expires.

To learn how to install and use PC-NFS, please consult the
documentation and the PC-NFS Windows help.

Version Information
===================

Version: 0.9.38 (Early Access Release)
Date: December 9, 1993
Expires: March 31, 1994

Known Problems or Limitations
=============================

This is a list of some of the known problems with this build of PC-NFS
for Windows NT.

The system can crash under extremely heavy load, particularly
when doing a lot of mounting and unmounting, or if multiple
threads are using the network. There may also be some data
	corruption problems under similar conditions.

This release does not fully support Posix applications, and
some Posix applications can cause it to crash.

We have done very little testing so far on MP systems, and at
least one MP test site has had problems.

Because of the way some subsystems and applications handle
case, "case-sensitive" mounts may not work as expected. For
example, applications or subsystems that add filename
extensions often add them in upper-case, so attempting to run
an application called "foo.exe" on a case-sensititve mount may
fail if you simply type "foo", because it is looking for
	"foo.EXE".

RSHD has a memory leak and slowly consumes system memory.

NTBACKUP does not work backing up an NFS drive.

When browsing for NFS drives, some remote systems may not be
shown because they did not respond quickly enough. If this
happens, retry the browse, or type in the remote path
	explicitly.

Sporadically, certain applications will not see mounted NFS
drives, or even see the NFS network. WRITE is one such
application. When this happens, exit the application and try
	again.

When both NetWare and PC-NFS providers are installed,
occasionally an error box will appear when using file manager
to connect or disconnect drives. The error box most frequently
displays information about an ASSERT failure. The workaround
is to click on Ignore when this box is seen - this should allow
	you to continue dis/connecting normally.

If you install the Novell NetWare provider after you have
installed PC-NFS, you may be unable to connect or disconnect
NFS drives in file manager. This appears to be due to garbage
characters being appended to the network provider order. To
remedy this, use REGEDT32 to edit the

	HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/SYSTEM/CurrentControlSet/Control
		/NetworkProvider/Order

key value and delete the offending characters.
