The information in this article applies to:

 - Microsoft Word for Macintosh, version 5.1

SYMPTOMS
========

If you create multiple subscriptions in a Word document with any of
the formatting options (Best Format, Formatted Text [RTF], Unformatted
Text, or Picture), changing at least two of the subscriptions to one
of the other formats may cause Word to stop responding when you save
the document. This problem can occur if you have not saved the
document after the subscriptions have been created and before the
format change.

STATUS
======

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Word for the
Macintosh, version 5.1. We are researching this problem and will post
new information here in the Microsoft Knowledge Base as it becomes
available.

WORKAROUND
==========

To avoid this problem, save the document before changing the formats
of the subscriptions. After this initial save, you can change the
subscriber formats, and you can save the document as expected.

NOTE: If you save the document after a single subscriber format is
changed, the save will work as expected.
