The information in this article applies to:

 - Microsoft Word for Windows, versions 2.0, 2.0a, 2.0a-CD, 2.0b,
   2.0c
 - Microsoft Windows operating system versions 3.0 and 3.1
-------------------------------------------------------------------

SYMPTOMS
========

If you use the Word for Windows Setup program to perform a second (or
subsequent) Workstation Installation and if the server location of
Word is a different logical drive, none of the import filters, export
filters, or OLE server applications runs correctly.

CAUSE
=====

Setup does not update the WIN.INI entries with the new network drive.

Exception: Setup correctly modifies the WordDocument setting in the
[Embedding] section of WIN.INI.

STATUS
======

We are researching this problem and will post new information here in the
Microsoft Knowledge Base as it becomes available.

MORE INFORMATION
================

For example, if you originally installed Word on your workstation from
drive E: and you later reinstalled Word from drive F:, Setup does not
change the WIN.INI entries in the following sections from E: to F:

 - [Embedding]: Setup updates the WordDocument entry but does not update
   the Drawing, MSGraph, Equation, and WordArt entries.

 - [MS Graphic Export Filters]

 - [MS Graphic Import Filters]

If Word cannot find the filter or server application in the old
location, an error occurs.
