 The information in this article applies to:

 - Microsoft MS-DOS operating system version 6.0
----------------------------------------------------------------------

SYMPTOMS
========

After you upgrade to MS-DOS 6.0 on an IBM PS/1 machine, the System
menu (sometimes referred to as the four-quadrant screen) is
unavailable or does not work correctly.

CAUSE
=====

Many PS/1 machines were purchased with IBM DOS 4.0 and a System menu
program preinstalled. When you upgrade to MS-DOS 6.0, this menu
program (which allows PS/1 users to work at an MS-DOS prompt, in
Microsoft Windows, and so forth) is lost.

RESOLUTION
==========

IBM has a patch available to correct this problem. The patch is
available from the IBM Bulletin Board Service (BBS) and America
Online. The IBM PS/1 BBS number is (404) 835-8230. The name of the
specific file is 4QUADMS6.EXE; it is in a self-extracting compressed
format.

MORE INFORMATION
================

make no warranty, implied or otherwise, regarding this product's
performance or reliability.
